Double Ball - A Public Domain game from 1992 has been preserved by the Polish Amiga Floppy Preservation Group

If you remember those great classics such as Arkanoid or even Breakout you might be in for a treat! As we've recently been contacted by Saberman, that the Polish Amiga Floppy Preservation Group has preserved and provided the Arkanoid clone of 'Double Ball': A Public Domain game that was originally developed by Blue Data, coded by Andrzej Radecki (Mr. Gary / Blue Data), and first appeared via the public domain archive in 1992. To coincide with this news, Saberman has also provided some gameplay footage! Although do be aware the music is far from enjoyable ;)

MeetBall - An Arkanoid and Pong mash up for the Commodore Amiga

If you remember Arkanoid; an arcade game first developed by Taito in 1986, with the bat like device scrolling from side to side at the bottom of the screen, bouncing an orb back and forth and smashing blocks for a high score, then you might like this latest Commodore Amiga news story. As Saberman was kind enough to let us know through Facebook, that Fredrik Johansson has made available an early 0.78 version of the Amiga game 'MeetBall' : An Arkanoid and Pong mash up that can be seen in this new footage provided below.

Tournament Arkanoid ZX - A mod of the classic game of 'Arkanoid' featuring awesome new artwork via Jarrod Bentley!

Ready your paddles retro gamers, as a new game is now available to download and play on your ZX Spectrum by Martyn Carroll. This latest release called Tournament Arkanoid, is a brand new mod of the classic game of 'Arkanoid' featuring awesome new artwork from Jarrod Bentley, as a nod to the Arcade version released back in 1987. To coincide with this news, Saberman has done a video of the game which shows the new loading screen as well as many great levels from the Arcade version which appeared in the states.

Break It 2022 - An upcoming Arkanoid/Break Out style game for the Atari XL/XE by Oliver Cyranka

Then you might like this news update! As thanks to Saberman contacting us through Facebook, he has told us that while the ABBUC competition 2022 is still on going, one of those games entered is a Arkanoid/Break Out style game of 'Break It 2022' by Oliver Cyranka.

Invanoid - An Arkanoid and Space Invaders mix as a demo for the Commodore Amiga

What do you get if you mix the 1986 Arcade game of 'Arkanoid' and the 1987 game of 'Space Invaders'? Probably this latest game from djpiotrs called 'Invanoid'; a brand new game demo in which playing as a bat like device scrolling from side to side at the bottom of the screen, you must bounce an orb back and forth while destroying waves of enemy ships that slowly traverse towards you. To coincide with this news Saberman has done a video of the game which can be viewed below.

Then you might be interested to know Langford Productions has released Bat 'n' Ball; an Indie game which is inspired by that classic game but instead mixes it up with some rather cool features.

Brick's Revenge - Bouncing balls in this Arkanoid/Breakout C64 WIP clone

Breakout Hero - Arkanoid/Breakout style game is now available to play


Ready your paddles retro gamers, as a new Arcade Pico release is now available to download and play on your Pico-8 or via browser. Developed by Krystian Majewski from Lazy Devs Academy with music by Gruber Music, comes a new game called  Breakout Hero with an inspiration to Arkanoid and Breakout that can be played by all with sound effects and bonuses a' plenty!

Arukanoido - Arkanoid clone for the Commodore VIC–20 teased!


It's nearly midnight here in the UK, but just moments ago via Facebook, Sven teased the first screenshots of an in-development Arkanoid clone of ' Arukanoido ' for the Commodore VIC-20 with at least 24k memory. Now if you remember Arkanoid; an arcade game first developed by Taito in 1986, with the bat like device scrolling from side to side at the bottom of the screen, bouncing an orb back and forth and smashing blocks for a high score, then keep eye out for this game when it hopefully comes out this year with music by Adrian Fox!

Death's Hangover - A new take on breakout and it looks fab!


If you remember those classics such as Arkanoid or even Breakout you might be in for a treat with BlueStarGeneral's Steam Greenlight campaign for 'Death's Hangover'. It takes the best bits from the ball bouncing and wall breaking antics from Breakout, and adds in their very own unique touch. Instead of the coloured bricks and sliding grey bat, in this one you're bashing barrels, hitting walls, killing bats and bosses, collecting coins and powering up all the while trying to defeat Dracula who has stolen Death's souls!

Specball 2016 - ZX Spectrum conversion of an Enterprise game


When it comes to retro computers I know about many of them especially the more common ones such as the Amstrad, C64 and ZX Spectrum. But I don't think I have ever heard of the Z80 based Enterprise, which this game originally had its roots way back in 1988. Rather than called ' Enterball ' developed by A-Studio, this game is now known as 'Specball 2016', as it was converted by ZOZOSOFT just recently to the ZX Spectrum. Apparently, because the Enterprise could emulate ZX Spectrum screen system and run some games with little modifications, ZOSOSOFT found and examined the code and released it as it is today.

Upp! - Breakout for the Atari 2600 but with a difference


Another great find by Retro Video Gamer is the recent release of the Atari 2600 homebrew game of ' Upp! '; which takes the breakout styled gameplay but adds their own special twist. Unlike the ball bouncing antics of similar games, in Upp! you must escape the space barrier by thrusting upwards towards the gap at the top. The problem is, you not only have to destroy the blocks, but you must obtain the energy pods (the round objects with an exclamation mark) to blast openings while also avoiding hitting your own ship.

Arkanoid style game in development for the Amiga


When it comes to new games in development or those that are unfinished, s2325 on the EAB forums is certainly no stranger in showing off the latest Amiga titles that have yet to see a full release, even on many of the official channels. Today's game is certainly one that looks very much like Arknoid but has some unique differences that may appeal to even the hardiest of bat 'n ball retro gamers.

Break 64 - Arkanoid/Breakout style game now available for the C64


Ready your paddles retro gamers, as a new Arcade C64 release which has come out preview is now available to download and play on your C64! Developed by Italian coder Wanax that is very similar to Arkanoid and Breakout, is a brand new game titled 'Break64'. The aim of the game just like those other great classics is to bounce a sphere like object around the level with your paddle, while smashing blocks and collecting objects (fruit) that fall.

We must be completely insane, it's currently midnight but here we are writing articles about the latest homebrew releases and retro games. Break64 however is going to be something special; a new upcoming C64 game developed by Italian coder Wanax that is very similar to Arkanoid and Breakout. The aim of the game to bounce a sphere like object around the level with your paddle, smashing blocks and collecting power ups. The only problem, this is just a preview and there is still some work to be done, but it wont be long!
