Cyber Blast X - A Hired Guns and Space Hulk mash up is coming to the Commodore Amiga

Put aside your arcade platformers and shoot 'em ups as do we have a treat for you! As if you loved playing either Hired Guns or Space Hulk on the Amiga, then make sure to keep an eye out for the upcoming release of 'Cyber Blast X'. An upcoming Amiga game that will have creatures to kill, rooms to explore, puzzle solving, and the ability to destroy walls as you progress in the game. To coincide with this news, Mark Tempe has provided some early footage and screenshots.

Here's the latest from the developer. "Cyber Blast X. Again, just a teaser — one more project I’m working on for those of us who loved Hired Guns and Space Hulk. It should be ready in weeks rather than months. Full disclosure: it was shareware around 2000. It took our team about two years of evenings and weekends. The installation and copy protection were so convoluted that practically nobody tried it. I’m streamlining this process and rewriting some of the code."

"It can run on an A500 with one meg, though it will appreciate a faster processor and more memory. There will be three graphical types of labyrinths and six monsters. Levels will be large — a mix of run-and-gun and puzzle-solving. You’ll be able to teleport, destroy walls, create walls, walk through walls, etc. There will be many different ways to finish each level... It Should be fun."

And that's all we have on this game so far, so watch this space!

  1. I thought it was a Virtual Boy game when I first saw it with the red and black. I think I played an earlier version or something similar to this game a while back. I would definitely have an option to use the keyboard for movement, as it looks far too slow with just using the mouse. If you are going for a Space Hulk or Hired guns feel, then it needs to be more Sci-fi with darker foreboding walls, floors and ceilings. There are some positives to take from this depending on where you want to take your project.

    1. Coding right now - I will see what I can do about keyboard input. On the other hand, It may be just me but I loved the Hired Guns and Space Hulk mouse controls. :)

    2. Go with what makes it work, but... I know Dungeon Master used keyboard and mouse for the four players, whilst Hired Guns and Space Hulk used just the Mouse for controlling all characters. Maybe provide an option for both, if possible. I really liked Hired Guns, but I did find myself wasting ammo, as I tended to fire my weapon when I just wanted to move back or forward. Some of the combat can be frantic in Hired Guns, especially with the faster moving enemies. I felt the mouse only controls limited me in performing actions quickly. Captive on the other hand had both I believe, as when you had to fight the Black Trolls or Flying Lizards the mouse would let you down most of the time, so the keyboard allowed for better movement in these situations. The numeric keypad is best for this. Also, gameplay wise, have a hole in the ceiling where the aliens can drop in front of you or behind you. Maybe have some where they come out of the walls, but remember to keep it practical. I like the claws they make on the screen. Keep up the good work, I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

  2. Thanks for all the input. Now that you mention it, occasionally in my game you do waste amo because of mouse control. I can't promise anything, but I will look into implementing you suggestions.
