Babylonian Twins wasn't the only unreleased game to see the light of day this week, as we welcome the release of Oracle (La Légende de / The Legend of), a long-lost first-person 3D dungeon crawler RPG originally built for the Commodore Amiga. Drawing heavy inspiration from classics like Dungeon Master, the project was originally developed using AMOS Professional starting back in 1996. While it was initially intended to hit the market as shareware, production ground to a halt, leaving the unfinished version 0.3d—dated 13 December 1996—as the final historical snapshot of the game. Now, a newly preserved, ready-to-run ADF disk image allows modern players to experience this bit of gaming history via Amiga hardware or emulators like WinUAE without having to wrestle with the original programming environment.
This build offers a fascinating glimpse into mid-90s game development, showcasing a functional mouse-driven interface, an auto-mapping feature that updates as you explore, and early NPC combat and movement mechanics. Visually and technically, the game has AMAL scripting for animated doors alongside corridor rendering for its walls, floors, and ceilings, all backed by AMCAF-driven sound and music. To run the game smoothly, players will need an expanded setup; testing confirms it runs well under a Workbench 3.0 or 1.3 environment using an Amiga 1200 profile packed with a Motorola 68020 processor, 2 MB of Chip RAM, and 8 MB of Fast RAM. While it pushes the AGA chipset nicely, Amiga fans attempting to load it on a stock, 1 MB Amiga 500 may run into compatibility hurdles, marking this release as a specialized treat for those with expanded classic rigs.
[UPDATE] The developer was kind enough to tell us the following in our comments section. "Hi, I'm the original programmer behind **ORACLE**, which I started developing in AMOS Professional back in 1996. I'm currently restoring and expanding the project as **ORACLE Reforged**, while trying to preserve as much of the original game and Amiga spirit as possible. For anyone interested, I posted a more detailed presentation of the project on English Amiga Board as well as a YouTube channel where I post development videos and current builds"

ReplyDeleteI'm currently restoring and expanding the project as **ORACLE Reforged**, while trying to preserve as much of the original game and Amiga spirit as possible.
For anyone interested, I posted a more detailed presentation of the project on English Amiga Board:

I also have a YouTube channel where I post development videos and current builds:

The videos are a little less polished than the one featured here, but they show the project evolving step by step. :)
And thanks again for featuring ORACLE!
Woooooooo welcome to IndieRetroNews Amethist! Thanks for sharing that. Love me a crawler :D
