Stab'N Dash - The Commodore Plus/4 gets another fantastic version of Green Beret

No sooner had I featured the hot news story of Sonic the Hedgehog coming to the Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200 than I found out through Facebook that Csabo, KiCHY, and The Sarge has released Stab'N Dash for the Commodore Plus/4. An overhauled version of Green Beret developed with top-notch coding, graphics, and high quality music. To coincide with this news, provided below is the full details of this release with some gameplay footage

Here's the latest from the Facebook post. "Yes you've got it, it's Green Beret on the Plus/4, but Csabo of Legion Of Doom (LOD) wanted to add his personal touches in code music and gameplay design. Then, Kisnémeth Róbert aka KiCHY came to add those stunning renditions of the well-known 4 stages. Cherry on the cake? Easy! The game features the very first Plus/4 title bitmap drawn by the real Maestro of the C64 art: The Sarge / C64 / Amiga! The game works on SD2IEC, takes advantage of your optional 256kB expansion, and makes your NES controller's double buttons shines if you have one with the correct interface!

But beware: it's a darn tough meat to bite! Practice a lot by playing it in Practice and Easy mode, before affording the real deal! Those enemies follow you, launch you grenades, shoot at you! War is war!"

  1. It looks great but also rather hard to play! Like the original GB

  2. Now this looks a lot better than the recent C16 version, and actually comes quite close to C64 version. So I assume that the plus/4 has clearly better hardware than the C16.

    1. The C16 has just 16KB where as the Plus/4 has 64KB RAM otherwise they are essentially the same.

    2. Here a couple if C16 versions are presented, they look both considerably worse than this Plus/4 version.

    3. it's logical, C16 has far less RAM. Otherwise the hardware is the same and many games for Plus4 run on an expanded 64Kb C16

  4. Just to add that back in the day nearly all games for the Plus/4 were Commodore 16 games (the cassette would also work on the Plus/4). Fortunately the Plus/4 has been getting some nice games that actually use that extra memory in recent years so it's no longer severely held back.

  5. Just fired up my Plus/4 to give this a try; like the original it's a bit too intense for my slow old reflexes & that's on the easy mode! Otherwise though it looks & plays great.
