Donkey Kong - A famous 80's game as an Arcade like Commodore Amiga conversion gets new footage!

It was only just the other week that we informed you that JOTD, who is also behind the brilliant Arcade conversions of Galaxian and Super Xevious 1200 for the Amiga, was going to be doing another conversion/port of the classic 80's game of 'Donkey Kong'. Well if you're hoping for some up to date news of this upcoming Arcade game, then we have just found out through the EAB forums, that JOTD has shown off some new gameplay footage. Footage which shows the animation, sound effects, and all four screens.

For those of you have never played Donkey Kong which is now being created using 68k assembly for the Commodore Amiga, here's what the wiki has to say about the game. "Donkey Kong is a 1981 arcade video game developed and published by Nintendo. As Mario, the player runs and jumps on platforms and climbs ladders to ascend a construction site and rescue Pauline from a giant gorilla, Donkey Kong. It is the first game in the Donkey Kong series as well as Mario's first appearance in a video game".

  1. FINALLY! Someone is PROPERLY porting Arcade games in their correct aspect Ratio. I have a MASSIVE suggestion though when a game is 3:4 (Like Pacman) coming to a 4:3 screen like Amiga......make a CHOICE in the game to ROTATE the screen to 3:4 to the LEFT or RIGHT but also keep it in 4:3 for EVERY game one ports that is 3:4 and ALSO a SCROLLING Option to get the True Resolution of the game but scrolling...Like Ms Pacman from Tengen on Sega Genesis and SNES or like Pacman 100 on C64. This will solve ALL problems and criticisms. Now when one chooses to ROTATE the image, you obviously have to PHYSICALLY rotate your actual monitor (for those willing to do it like me, but also for those wanting to make a PERMANENT fixture arcade with Said particualr gane with these abilities/features.)

  3. Donkey Kong set a whole new standard for video games. The arcade version was head over shoulders of what you had at home. (Same with Pac-Man at this time)

Your console or home computer was only as good as it's port of Donkey Kong now. (Sorry 2600)
Do you want better animation or the cement factory level?

Well at the arcade you could have it all which is why my friends and I would continue to ride our bikes to a local gas station to put quarters into Donkey Kong.

In the last few years I put together my own home arcade or multicade to relive the memories of going to the arcade. Dual sticks, trackball, wheel and pedals, etc.

I have collected hundreds of games since the early days of cartridge console gaming going back to the 70's. Have more ports of Donkey Kong than any other game.

This will be a great addition. A legit arcade port. It looks really good.
