Cubix - The first 3D platformer of its kind for the ZX Spectrum!

Trawling through X looking for some new games to be announced on Indie Retro News, and I think I've found a game that really stands out. This game doesn't just look fun to play, but according to @RetroSouls, is a masterpiece from @ssmirnov_dev. Welcome to the new homebrew of 'Cubix' by Gogin. A game which was recently entered into the YRGB 2025 competition. The first 3D platformer of its kind for the ZX Spectrum. A game that takes place in the distant geometric universe of Cubix, where the laws of physics obey symmetry, and the world consists of ideal cubes.

And here's the latest. "Our main character Bix — a simple resident who accidentally escaped a curse — decides to challenge fate! He must climb each of the towers, overcome the insidious trials, collect all the facets of the Talisman and restore it in order to return peace to his people. The game has 6 large game locations «towers», different from each other; various game mechanics (more than 10 pieces), cute enemies, brain-bearing logical riddles, and new abilities to be discovered.

Minimum system requirements:

  • - ZX Spectrum 128/+2/+2A/+2B/+3
  • - Z80 CPU at 3.5 MHz
  • - 128 KB of RAM
  • - AY/YM sound chip

Game Info :
  • - revolutionary 3D engine with true perspective, written from scratch
  • - 6 levels of 128x32 tiles filled with labyrinths, traps and puzzles
  • - 11 tiles and 32 sprites on each level
  • - different game mechanics on each level (10+ mechanics total)
  • - a lot of cute enemies
  • - 8 tunes for AY/YM sound chip
  • - 6 handdrawn screen images (loading, intro, finalcut)
  • - a drop of metroidvania: you need to unlock abilities and use them to get to the end
