The Commodore Plus/4 has recently received a playable build of Retrogods. Developed by System Syndrome, the title first generated excitement last year after debuting as a preview entry among five competing titles at the prominent Arok party game development competition. In this fresh tease, players control Grágel, a digital wizard who possesses the unique ability to rewind time by eight seconds, as he navigates a collapsing virtual realm. Grágel is joined on his quest by a small mouse companion named Rudin, who specializes in sneaking into tight spaces. Together, the duo must gather scattered runestone pieces to secure their escape while evading An Fuath, a massive, logic-driven Golem boss tasked with wiping out unapproved code.
The game blends deep lore with strategic stealth and clever time-distortion mechanics. Players must use the environment to their advantage, specifically leveraging lightning strikes to manipulate the relentless Golem adversary. While the current release offers a fully playable experience, creator Verona has confirmed that this is not yet the definitive edition. Fans of the plus/4 can look forward to future updates, as the development team is actively working on expanding the project with additional levels, deeper narrative elements, and multiple endings.

looks very good for a Plus4
ReplyDeleteGreat game !!!! It looks spectacular and incredible—like an Amiga 500 rather than a C16 !!!
ReplyDeleteHello! I am Verona, the coder of this game.
ReplyDeleteAll hail goes to Harry of GOTU, every piece of the graphic is his masterpiece!
The time-rewind mechanic replaces lives in the game. If you have gotten by the golem or traps, then press the fire button to rewind the game to a safe state. Max. 8 seconds, but you can rewind until you want within this time range.
The narrative engine is not present yet, when that will be finished, the lore will be alive too!
So stay tuned, the levels are in progress, and the code will be expanded with narrative engine!
