The Commodore 64 homebrew scene has another roguelike to be enjoyed, as developer BarracudaBits has officially released Broken Crown, a procedurally generated roguelike that pays homage to the beloved dungeon crawlers of the 1980s. Unlike traditional static adventures, Broken Crown features a "living" overworld that changes with every playthrough. Players are tasked with hunting down scattered fragments of a shattered relic—the only hope for stopping a final, looming threat that plagues the land. The journey takes you from the sunlight of the overworld deep into perilous, randomly generated dungeons where classic grid-based crawling meets modern roguelike design.
BarracudaBits has ensured that the game is accessible regardless of how you enjoy your retro gaming today: Real Hardware & Emulation: Purists can load the D64 disk image on a C64 capable of running d64 files or through the VICE emulator using the classic LOAD "*",8,1 command. A standalone PRG file is also available for quick loading in modern environments. Browser Play: For those who want an immediate taste of the action, a web-based version is also available.

Very interesting
ReplyDeleteYou cannot load D64 with an original C64, you need to transfer the D64 to a floppy first. With C64 Ultimate you can open a D64 from the USB drive/SD card.
ReplyDeleteYes I'm well aware as I have a c64 , and a c64 maxi. Just forgot to type it in as I'm so used to using my 64 with an ultimate cartridge plugged in the back 😜🤣🤣
