An IndieRetroNews reader, has recently informed us in our comments feed, that JOTD has finally released the eagerly awaited Bad Dudes vs DragonNinja Arcade conversion for the Commodore Amiga (AGA). A game that when it was originally released by Data East/Imagine in 1989 was regarded by some on the Lemon Amiga forums as an absolute dreck with horrible graphics and terrible backgrounds! Thankfully with JOTD behind this conversion, it's sure to be another hit in the Amiga scene.
If you've been waiting for more updates on this upcoming Arcade to Amiga development. Then we have just found out through the EAB thread, that the creator has not only updated the game with a new build, but this version is now being noted as being fully playable! Albeit some missing stuff and bugs. Just be aware JOTD did say he wanted to release a version now, as he felt it was taking forever for a first itch version.
Credits:
- - JOTD: reverse engineering amiga port, graphics conversion
- - no9: music tracks and sound remastering
- - PascalDe73: amiga icon
- - Data East: original code, sounds, music & graphics
- - paraj,a/b & all tech experts @ EAB: support with amiga hardware quirks
This port is special because it's not a transcode. It's running using the original 68000 code of the arcade game, with a lot of patches to redirect graphical & sound operations to the amiga side.
Requirements:
- - PAL A1200/A4000 with fast memory
- - whdload installed
- - 2 button joystick (keyboard also supported)

SHWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!! Nice :D :D :DD:D:D:D:D
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful news!
ReplyDeletelooking good :) looks like we could have decent ports back in the day if the developers could of been bothered.
ReplyDeleteThere were a few really good arcade ports on Amiga but also really bad ones. Some were probably rushed while others from devs really strange 3rd party companies that made cheap software. Without the same restrictions of time and disk space many of these homebrews have been fantastic. Making games that took up memory and space were really expensive back in the day. Now people are doing it for free.
DeleteYeah!! Now Amiga conversions are getting seriously cool! 😎 Great work JOTD!
ReplyDeleteTrue, original Amiga version was terrible, C64 version with its impressive combined sprite multiplex was better. Fingers crossed, it looks nice on the Amiga now too!
ReplyDeleteS(not H)wweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettttttt !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteKeep the Good Work ! It's great and We need such Amiga version.
ReplyDeletelast night i played the original amiga version via whdload on my 1200! It was a broken game with bad controls unplayable even with cheats...I thought that it would be nice if there was a new version and today i read this!!! I am looking forward for this one!
ReplyDeleteComparing it to the arcade it really does look arcade perfect
ReplyDeleteMmmyeah, I used to play Bad Dudes, you know when I was younger...I then moved on to Two Crude...wauw is all I can say! Two Crude sums up the 1990's for me! It replaces the 80's Rambo never ending ammo spray with the ultimate being badass...oh,let's pick up a car and throw at someone. Two Crude is so utterly sarcastic that you just have to love it! Yet, most fellow nerdsters have never heard of Two Crude. Not yet released on an Amiga.
ReplyDeleteWow.... i think amiga is emulation so kind of arcade emulator.... its so near the arcade version... VERY GOOD !!! Great Jog.....
ReplyDeleteMusic Theme seems inspirated by Miami Vice one at some moments or is it my imagination? Anyway it's great!
ReplyDeleteI don't understand all the hate for these older arcade conversions. A lot of these were unplayable But I didn't think dragon ninja wasn't bad especially when it was released In the late '80s. sure, looking at it from a 2025 perspective it looks terrible but back then I thought it was pretty good
ReplyDeleteAwesome
ReplyDeleteJOTD is on fire!
ReplyDeleteI've always loved the cover for this game, looks like someone tried to draw Tom Cruise from memory.
ReplyDeleteTom Cruise which would require serious dental work then!
DeleteRobocop next? Same hardware
ReplyDeleteRobocop is already in development for Amiga: https://youtu.be/OIrTdgRi8ng?t=137
DeleteYes Robocop was announced a while back. Hopefully on the way…
DeleteI liked the Amiga version, sure it was no coin up, and the games 2d plane makes it look crude compared to (coin up) Final Fight and SOR2 on console. Still, it was fun and the trailer roof fighting is just a fun idea that Íd love to see in more games. Crazy fun times. Won´t say no to an upgrade, but a second playable character (bad babes?) would be cool;)
ReplyDeleteCool stuff. I wonder how to eliminate the slowdowns during those busy scenes though. Even when running the game on Amiberry on a Pi5 (120x faster than an A4000 with 68040) the slowdowns still happen.
ReplyDeleteThanks !!!
ReplyDeleteMasterful!
Ottima conversione !!

👏
Can you please post in English ( Hence why other comments are not appearing ) ! As I've had a lot of abusive posts in the past from someone and I don't want to have to translate it to see it :) - Thanks
Deleteokay, I apologize
DeleteI always thought the original Dragon Ninja was a great conversion for the Amiga. I mean. The people who saying it isnt... have they ever played double dragon, eswat, rolling thunder?... the list goes on. Anyways... im glad this port is now available.
ReplyDeleteLooks arcade perfect. I think the original amiga game was well done, it was in 7 colour dual playfeild mode but still looked nice.
