NEOGEO owners are in for a treat as the legendary, challenging platformer Rick Dangerous is coming to SNK’s iconic hardware with the upcoming release of Rick Dangerous DX. Originally created by Core Design back in 1989, this unforgiving classic channels the spirit of Indiana Jones, thrusting players into lethal caves and booby-trapped temples. Our hero relies on a shooter, a few sticks of dynamite, and a trusty club to dodge relentless enemies, rolling boulders, and hidden spikes. Built entirely from scratch by developer Domkid of the Z-Team using Earok's powerful Scorpion Engine, this brand-new NEOGEO port acts as a fascinating backport of the 2008 Nintendo Wii remake by Magic Team. It follows successful Z-Team conversions for the Amiga in 2023 and the Sega Mega Drive in 2025.
Breathing new life into the punishing 80s classic with fully remastered visuals and seamless modern performance, Domkid has meticulously adapted Dalk’s vivid Wii graphics for the NEOGEO hardware, pairing the upgraded look with a striking, fresh title screen based on an original 2018 illustration by Simon Phipps himself. While the game is slated to support emulation, it also supports standard NEOGEO AES, MVS, and NEOGEO CD setups, with modern flashcards supported—such as NeoSD, Darksoft, BackBit, or NeoCD SD loaders.
