While many of you were overjoyed to hear that Stunt Car Racer from the C64 had been ported over to both the Atari 8-bit, BBC micro and Commodore plus/4. There's another version that's been released which is equally special and well worth a download, and it's Stunt Car Racer for the Commodore 128. Yes that's right thanks to another heads up via Facebook, we've been told that if you want to see just how smooth Stunt Car Racer can be on the C128, then make sure to check out this version released by cobbpg.
Stunt Car Racer was one of the best stunt style racers and one of Geoff Crammonds finest games, it had some of the craziest tracks ever with one of them being the ultimate track the "Ski Jump". Yet what made it so good was not just the feeling of speed, but the thrill of accelerating into the sky and coming back down with an almighty crack. So you can probably see why I'm so impressed to see Stunt Car Racer running so smooth on the C128.

Very cool, played it a lot on my old A500
ReplyDeleteRuns really well. Frame rate boost is noticeable.
ReplyDeleteDoesnt seem to work for me in Vice for some reason (CPU jam). Any idea how to get it working?
ReplyDeleteJust attach the disk image, then reset the computer, and it should automatically boot into the game.
DeleteThis is fantastic! Thanks!! made video of the game running on real hardware. https://youtu.be/tHqb4j9nz-A?si=FTcmdElBzmwQzkSs
ReplyDeleteAs in the Amiga turbo version, time counter seems a bit accelerated from the video :(
ReplyDeleteWhish that someone patched the Amiga version to detach Time routine from framerate, sigh...
Is there any indication as to how the considerable performance increase was achieved on the C128 (over the C64)? I'd be very interested in details along these lines.
