Looking through the EAB forums, I've just found out that Depechem70 has released Prehistorik AGA, a complete fan overhaul of Titus's classic 1991 platformer Prehistorik. The creator has enhanced the contrast and fine detail across every background, item, and environmental texture into 256 colour palettes, while intentionally leaving the game’s bold outlines and quirky character designs intact. To make the world feel more dynamic, the update infuses animation frames into everything from dinosaurs, birds, and fish to winter-themed polar bears, penguins, walruses, and snowmen. Amiga owners will also encounter reworked boss graphics, animated backdrops, more satisfying hit visual cues, rising bubbles tiny drifting fish in aquatic stages, and realistic falling snow beneath a subtly twinkling starry night sky.
Furthermore, the new release smooths out room-to-room screen transitions and squashes a long list of legacy loading, gameplay, and graphical bugs found in the original. The core code and memory architecture have been tightly optimised around the 68020 processor. For those playing via WHDLoad or on a CD32 console, Depechem70 has bundled an entirely new, family-centric introduction sequence alongside a fully animated custom ending movie. CD32 owners get extra goodies too, as that specific version pulls the CD audio soundtracks straight from the CDTV release. Perhaps the most amusing addition is a newly programmed idle quirk: if you leave the joystick untouched for over 20 seconds, the hungry caveman will casually pull out a vape, blowing thick, animated vapor clouds that slowly dissolve off the screen.
- Requirements: AGA/68020, 2 MB Chip RAM and 4 MB Fast RAM, including the CD32 edition.
( For those of you who shout AI slop, just stick with the original which is just as fun as it was all those years ago )

Nice , but the intro scene doesnt match the game character?
ReplyDeleteAI....
DeleteThe original one is far more aesthetically coherent. It is perfectly fine.
ReplyDeleteBut why did you "make" it?? It’s IDENTICAL to the A500 version in every way. Pointless mysteries!
ReplyDeleteNot at all, actually. You can check the comparison screenshots at the link provided. The new version is MUCH more colourful. It reminds me of the new Rick Dangerous version from not so long ago (before all this AI craze, I think). It was so much more colourful too. Was it better, in terms of the graphics? Probably a matter of personal preferences. However - we should bear in mind that this version of Prehistoric also brings some "quality of life" changes in terms of gameplay... The intro was, indeed, awkward (where the glorious beard?!?!), but, apart from that, it is a valiant effort to improve the experience. Some might like it, others will not.
DeleteThe original art is carefully crafted, pixel-by-pixel. The AI has just down-sized som pixels without correcting them much. The difference between pixel art and, well..... pixels.
