Another Amiga news story as ABG has released the latest version of Battle Squadron CD32 Remix v1.0, an extensive fan-made adaptation of the classic 1989 vertically scrolling shooter for the Amiga CD32. Originally designed by Cope-Com and published by Innerprise Software as a sequel to Hybris, the original title won critical acclaim for its blazing game speed, detailed explosion animations, and memorable bass-heavy soundtrack(wiki). This new CD32 tribute updates the beloved shooter with seamless optical media integration. The game boots directly from the disc with a custom loading screen and progress bar, fully reconfigures the menus and "nova missile" interface for the CD32 joypad, and supports native two-player co-op with dual controllers.
The remix improves the game's presentation by adding vibrant, 256-colour AGA artwork to the title sequence and menu screens. Visually, the experience is enriched by added colour intro and colour end sequences, with new screens under the end texts. Audio also receives a substantial upgrade; while original in-game sound effects and jingles remain powered by the Amiga's classic Paula chip, the background music shifts completely to high-fidelity CD audio tracks. Players can browse 17 different track options directly on the status bar using the forward and reverse functions, seamlessly blending Ron Klaren's legendary original arrangements with fresh contributions from the AmigaRemix community. This complete fan package includes a built-in trainer menu and print-ready printable CD cover inserts illustrated by Wachi.

ReplyDeleteDamn. That was an experience. I needed ImageBurn to toast the CD as it was supposed to be. Then I activated my printer, found some Glossy paper, downloaded an CD Printing App & printed. YES!!!! Next step is to cut the cover & to find a CD Hull. Guys. Thats a story you can tell your grandmom! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for this. Still own the original game on the A500, fantastic shoot'em up.
ReplyDeleteGreat Un-Release !!!! Wow !
ReplyDeleteOkay, the CD audio is great, but the game is always the same for OCS. On a CD32, it could use at least a few upgrades—like, I don't know, more colors, a better frame rate, and higher-quality sound effects. As it is, it always feels like the same old thing.
