ChromaBlast - A cute(?) Vertical Scrolling Shoot-em-up is demo'd on the Amiga! [UPDATE]

Developer lisoform2003 has released a new demo for ChromaBlast, a new vertical scrolling shoot-em-up for the Commodore Amiga developed through human-AI collaboration with Claude AI. Targeting OCS/ECS and AGA hardware, the game features a combo-driven evolution system where players control the Chromacraft to fight the Grayscale Armada across five levels. The project, created by Michele Ferrigno, utilizes custom 68000 assembly and C code to produce high-performance, OS-independent gameplay on stock A500+ machines.

Shadow Fields - This side scrolling Shoot 'em up for the ZX Spectrum 128k by Gandulf looks rather decent!

A new horizontal-scrolling shoot-'em-up titled as Shadow Fields has officially arrived for the ZX Spectrum, and it is already getting great feedback throughout the retro gaming community! Feedback such as "Damn, that looks like it couldn't be a Speccy game" and "Gorgeous shoot-em-up". Developed by Manuel Ferreira Moreno, better known as Gandulf, the game is being hailed as a technical marvel that pushes the classic hardware to its absolute limits. 

Chrome Horizon - This nod to R-Type as a prototype C64 game looks pretty decent [UPDATE]

The legendary Commodore 64 has just got another great Shoot 'em up for you to try, as retroteamgames has released another update for their breakthrough prototype called Chrome Horizon. Far from a standard hobbyist project, this title aims to prove that the "breadbin" still has untapped potential when paired with modern development workflows. In fact not only was this game written entirely in C using the Oscar64 compiler, but it has advanced Raster IRQ multiplexing, supporting 16+ simultaneous hardware sprites., ultra-smooth 50/60fps parallax scrolling logic and a custom SID music routine integration.

Trap - A lost prototype originally a C64 release appears on the Atari XL/XE!

Throughout the years we've featured many lost and recovered games, this is especially true when it comes to either the Amiga or the Commodore 64. Well, today's news is a bit of a special one. As if you have an Atari XL/XE however, we've been told that the 1986 game 'Trap', which featured music by Ben Daglish, has been recovered as a prototype for the Atari XL/XE. A game whereby some have commented for the Commodore 64 version, that it requires patience to play, is rather difficult but was one of Antony Crowther better C64 games.

Wings of Fear - A fantastic top scrolling WW1 Shoot 'em up from Roar Tjørhom for the Amiga AGA! [UPDATE]

I have a soft spot for shoot 'em ups on the Amiga, especially games such as the fantastic Banshee, or my personal favorites Project-X and R-Type. Well thanks to another heads up from the developer known as Roartj(Roar Tjørhom), we've been told that the eagerly awaited WW1 Shoot 'em up called 'Wings of Fear' has come out of beta and has been released into the wild. A high quality game developed using Earok's Scorpion Engine, that will have you hooked for hours!

Go-Go BunnyGun - A high quality Shoot-em-up for the ZX Spectrum by Ionian Games

Fancy playing a new game that's received very decent feedback such as "Like a cross between R Type and Lifeforce. Looks great" and "that's amazing, brilliant"? Then come and check out this latest release for the ZX Spectrum called 'Go-Go BunnyGun'. A bold and colourful new shoot-'em-up for the 48K Sinclair ZX Spectrum from Ionian Games. Star Skimmer Enhanced - A pretty decent SEUCK C64 game from Alf Yngve and Martin Piper [UPDATE]

Another SEUCK competition entry has appeared, and it's 'Star Skimmer' by Alf Yngve and Martin Piper. This homebrew Commodore 64 title, is a arcade Shoot 'em up, that features vertical scrolling gameplay, different enemy waves, and plenty of laser blasting action. In regards to the story however, you play as Cole Skimmer who is on a very deadly mission to stop the evil Nitwup empire from hatching a plot to take over Planet Earth. Mega Vortex 2 - A top scrolling C64 shoot 'em up entered into the SEUCK Compo 2025!

Trawling through the latest SEUCK Compo 2025 entries looking for a fun C64 game to play, and one that stood out in the crowd, was Vox VideoGame's C64 Shoot 'em up of ' Mega Vortex 2 '. A game in which you play as Pinov Vox, a fearless space pilot of Mega Vortex 2 on a mission to destroy the evil Megaloryan emperor and his minions. Sky Shapers (Amiga) - A vertical scrolling SHMUP from new Norwegian developers Digilicious Nibbles! [Update]

Love collecting big box Amiga games and more so brand new ones from homebrew developers, then come and check out Digilicious Nibbles latest Arcade Shoot 'em up of 'Sky Shapers': A game in which the Norwegian developers have said is "an engaging and challenging 50 FPS vertical scrolling SHMUP". While I'm unsure when a digital download only version will be available, you can at least buy the boxed edition which is available to buy through the Amiga Shop linked below right now.

SkillGrid - A wicked AGA Shoot 'em up for the Commodore Amiga gets another update!

Some late Indie Retro News for you all and one I think you'll agree is rather cool if you have a Commodore Amiga, as we've recently been informed via the EAB forums, that you can now download the newest version 1.4 of SkillGrid; an endless score-attack vertical shoot 'em up featuring frenetic, tactical gameplay and comprising of a variety of different sub-games, boss battles and sophisticated scoring mechanics.

Scary Things - A vertical scrolling Shoot 'em up for the ZX Spectrum previously released for Halloween [UPDATE]

If you're looking for more scary goodness then you've come to right place! As after already featuring the ZX Spectrum game of 'Monster Mayhem' by Mananuk, along comes another game for the ZX Spectrum called ' Scary Things 2.0 ' by DF Design. A vertical scrolling Shoot 'em up previously released for Halloween in which you have to blast your way through a World of Horror hosted by an infamous film character. Thunder Child - This work in progress Intellivision Shoot 'em up looks EPIC!

I have a bit of a soft spot for the Intellivision, especially with some fantastic games announced on our site such as Intellivania, Gooninuff, and Oh Mummy! Well here we are with another awesome news story for the Intellivision community, as winterworks GmbH is working on an EPIC Shoot 'em up called 'Thunder Child'. A game that doesn't just feature upgradeable weapons and powerups, but smooth scrolling parallax backgrounds and lots of levels. Dreadnought Assault - An awesome looking WIP scrolling shoot 'em up for the Atari 7800!

Not content with all the awesome news we've had so far this month, then how about this news update that's just been sent to us by our good friend Liqmatrix. It's the work in progress game of 'Dreadnought Assault' by kiwilove and playsoft. A rather awesome looking WIP scrolling shoot 'em up for the Atari 7800, which can be downloaded and played right now with new levels and graphical changes. To coincide with this news story, if you don't have an emulator installed or an Atari 7800 however, you could can at least check out some footage of this work in progress game below.

Xenon 2 Megablast - Manic retro shoot 'em up could be getting a 50fps AGA Amiga edition via mcgeezer!

For those of you who played the shoot em up of Xenon 2 - Megablast on the Amiga in the year of 1989. A game that was developed by The Bitmap Brothers and also released on systems such as the Atari ST, IBM PC, Sega Master System, Sega Mega Drive and Sharp X68000. Then you might be interested in this latest news story that we've come across via the EAB forums. As Mcgeezer looks to be working on a recoded version for the Commodore Amiga. A new version in which he says "I've decided to try and recode Xenon 2 for AGA running at 50FPS".

Goldorak - A kick ass Shoot 'em up by Zisquier for the Amstrad CPC plus and GX4000!

Amstrad GX4000 owners might like this latest news story that's just been sent to us by Saberman, as if you're looking for a new Shoot em up to play, then Zisquier has you covered with his brand new Amstrad Plus and GX4000 game called 'Goldorak'; a new game which is a nod to the classic anime of Grendizer; a TV anime series produced by Dynamic Productions and animated by Toei Animation airing October 5, 1975 to February 27,1977. In light of this news, Saberman has also done a new video of the game in action .

Corescape - Check out this rather cool Shoot 'em up for the Commodore 64 by drmortalwombat

Mega R-Type DEMO - R-Type for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis with an updated demo!

In 1987 Irem produced one of the greatest shoot em ups of our time, a shoot em up that even today is regarded as one of the best. That shoot em up was none other than R-Type. A game which featured many waves of enemies, a beam weapon, power ups, great level detail (that almost feels alive), big menacing bosses and a fantastic soundtrack that you will listen to again and again. So why is this awesome game getting another mention? Well we've just found out that the in development Sega Mega Drive/Genesis of 'Mega R-Type,' has got a BIG demo update with a new stage and more!

E.D.F. Special - An Amiga proof of concept inspired by the game E.D.F. from SNES and the arcade

If you're fed up with all the Christmas news, then how about this news story that's just been sent to us by Saberman, it's S0Y's latest game development of 'E.D.F. Special': An early alpha tease of a new arcade shoot 'em up that's based on the original SNES version of Jaleco and created in RedPill! To coincide with this news, while the developer has provided some info about the game, you can see the latest footage of this proof of concept showing waves of enemies, different bullets, and the smallest of level teases.

Ewe Woz 'Ere DX - A cool action packed C64 game by DESIGN/Chaos gets a new 1.3 update!

As trawling through the itch.io website, we've just found out that the previously featured action packed Commodore 64 game of 'Ewe Woz 'Ere DX' by Design/Chaos, has recently been updated to version 1.3. A game in which playing as Baaary: Mutton Command, you must defend the fields from an invasion of Traazkists.
