Another SEUCK competition entry has appeared, and it's 'Star Skimmer' by Alf Yngve and Martin Piper. This homebrew Commodore 64 title, is a arcade Shoot 'em up, that features vertical scrolling gameplay, different enemy waves, and plenty of laser blasting action. In regards to the story however, you play as Cole Skimmer who is on a very deadly mission to stop the evil Nitwup empire from hatching a plot to take over Planet Earth. To coincide with this news, provided below is further details and some gameplay footage.
UPDATE : I've just been informed that the first place winner of 'Star Skimmer', has been re-released as an enhanced edition. According to The New Dimension "This game was mastered in SEUCK Redux and features major in game enhancements, which include smart aiming aliens, background parallax scrolling, a new score panel, level colour changing features, new music and also the music changes in between in game boss stages. The game also features a cool front end with in game sound options and a full high score table in which you can sign your name to. Star Skimmer also features a very nice loading bitmap which was drawn by Carl Mason. This is absolutely wonderful stuff for a stunningly traditional vertical scrolling shoot 'em up that has won the C64 SEUCK Compo 2025. A much deserved prize".

Actually a cool game. Made for a competition it may lack depth (no weapon upgrades etc.) and lastability (I managed to solve it in the second attempt, after getting to know what's ground and what's obstacles), but it gives a very satisfying gaming experience - SEUCK or not!
ReplyDeleteOoohhh Alf Yngve your are back in Seuck scene !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd to think that I was thinking of you hoping that you are still alive and well as well as carnal...you know dear Alf you are among my favorite coders in the history of videogames together with many others....like Erik Simon, Martyn Brown, Manfred Trenz, Andrew Braybrook, the brothers of Thalamus....!
I absolutely love this game. Well done guys! 👍
ReplyDeleteWith more enemy waves, and a soundtracking playing I think this would be a commercial hit
DeleteAn improved version of STAR SKIMMER (with more effects and in-game music) will be released later in 2025.
ReplyDeleteAh, I've played the game on the ZZAP coverdisk just yesterday, was very nice, though I suck at these types of shooter games and there's no autofire.
ReplyDeleteVery cool, it could be little bit more dynamic but other then that loving it.
