Raiden - A brilliant Arcade Shoot 'em up is partially recovered as an Amiga & Atari Falcon preview

A piece of gaming history has been officially recovered as two unreleased 1990s computer ports of Seibu Kaihatsu’s legendary arcade shoot-em-up, Raiden, has been added to digital archives for both the Commodore Amiga and Atari Falcon as a preview download. Originally hitting arcades in 1990, Raiden became an instant phenomenon. The vertical shooter put players inside the Raiden Supersonic Attack Fighter to battle invading aliens with destructive weapon upgrades and fast-paced gameplay. While it was successfully ported to platforms like the SNES, Mega Drive, and Atari Jaguar, the mid-90s ports for the Commodore Amiga and Atari Falcon by developer Imagitec Design were famously shelved due to a shifting gaming market.

The legendary Commodore 64 has just got another great Shoot 'em up for you to try, as retroteamgames has released the final version of their breakthrough prototype called Chrome Horizon. Far from a standard hobbyist project, this title aimed to prove that the "breadbin" still has untapped potential when paired with modern development workflows. In fact not only was this game written entirely in C using the Oscar64 compiler, but it has advanced Raster IRQ multiplexing, supporting 16+ simultaneous hardware sprites, ultra-smooth 50/60fps parallax scrolling logic and a custom SID music routine integration.

Bomberplanes - An Amiga game created in the 90's has made an appearance on itch!

The Commodore Amiga scene gets another rediscovery, as today's appearance is a game called Bomberplanes, an intense aerial shooter originally developed in 1994 by Dutch creator Bart ter Haar. A game in which he states, that not only was it created 32 years ago using SEUCK for the Amiga, but he was only 16 at the time! A version that is, in some respects, even more limited than the C64 version. Naturally, he would have done it very differently in 2026. The Commodore Amiga community may have just witnessed a piece of digital history resurface: a seemingly unpreserved shoot 'em up titled Xeno Genesis by Demantoid Productions. Published by Danish PD/Shareware distributor Cat Computer Club, but screenshots shows the original publisher was meant to be Microvalue. While helping his brother clear out his loft, a user discovered a box of old Amiga disks. Among the common titles was this mystery game, which—despite the harsh storage conditions of the last 20+ years—successfully booted on the first try after a quick cleaning to remove dust and a stray spider leg.
