JOTD is on fire with all these Arcade to Amiga ports, as he has now unveiled with some early footage of an upcoming Commodore Amiga AGA port of Capcom’s classic arcade shooter, Vulgus. Released by Capcom in 1984, Vulgus holds a historic spot as the company's very first video game. This classic vertically scrolling shoot-'em-up puts players in the cockpit of a fighter ship blasting through waves of hostile alien ships and geometric fortresses. The gameplay is fast and straightforward, defining early arcade action with a dual-weapon system featuring standard lasers and limited, high-powered missiles. With looping stages and catchy chiptune soundtrack this laid the crucial groundwork for Capcom's future legendary shooters like 1942.
The project leverages a complete Z80 assembly reverse-engineering effort completed years ago by veteran coder Mark (tcdev). Thanks to the game's relatively straightforward design, JOTD successfully utilized a new custom code converter, which remarkably got the title up and running pretty quickly. While acknowledging that the 1984 title might not be the most legendary shoot-'em-up in history, JOTD noted the immense satisfaction of a swift porting process. Although several graphical bugs and visual glitches still need to be ironed, which includes sound issues ( No9 doing the tunes ), the build is already functional, and highly promising for both Arcade and Amiga fans alike.
