Shadow Fields - This side scrolling Shoot 'em up for the ZX Spectrum 128k by Gandulf looks rather decent!

A new horizontal-scrolling shoot-'em-up titled as Shadow Fields has officially arrived for the ZX Spectrum, and it is already getting great feedback throughout the retro gaming community! Feedback such as "Damn, that looks like it couldn't be a Speccy game" and "Gorgeous shoot-em-up". Developed by Manuel Ferreira Moreno, better known as Gandulf, the game is being hailed as a technical marvel that pushes the classic hardware to its absolute limits.

Shadow Fields is a pure labor of love, coded entirely from scratch in 100% assembler code. Unlike many notable homebrew titles, it uses no pre-existing engines or AI-generated assets. Every line of code was hand-crafted by Gandulf, who also served as the game's graphics artist! Key features of this custom build include: Destructible Environments: The entire game world can be blasted apart, adding a layer of tactical carnage to the fast-paced action, and Massive Bosses: Players can expect to face off against large, full-color bosses that dominate the screen.

  • 128K Power: To achieve this level of performance, the game exclusively supports 128K models, utilizing the extra RAM and the AY-3-8912 sound chip for its atmospheric score.
  • Smooth scroll with colors: Three different starfield planes + smooth screen scrolling
