As if you couldn't get enough Street Fight! As I've just found out through Saberman that APE is working on a Street Fighter 2 game called SFII: Ape Edition. An in-development fan project for the Amiga 500 utilizing the Scorpion Engine, currently requiring 512KB Chip RAM and 1MB of other RAM. Developed with a focus on character accuracy, the WIP version includes mostly complete movesets for Chun-Li, Blanka, and Zangief, with future plans to implement dynamic frame loading and add Ryu. A playable .adf file is available for testing, with further development focusing on character movesets, shading, and AI optimization.
Here's the latest from the developer "I was gonna wait a bit longer to create a thread about this, but probably better to post my stuff here rather than hijack that other SF2 thread going on nowadays. Atm this needs 512kb chipram + 1MB other ram. Earok has plans to allow framedata to be loaded into memory as needed instead of all at once, so that'll certainly help. This might end up being the minimum specs anyway though. Still quite a few things up in the air, like how lean I can make the AI code for example. Downloadable .adf included for people to try out. Obviously very wip at the moment, but more to come : ) Next is Ryu: moves, collision boxes etc and shading all of his and Chunli's frames. Then AI when I've got all the movements and other details close enough to the arcade."
"The aim is to explore what's possible to achieve on A500 OCS. My focus is on replicating the arcade gameplay at 50fps and with music and sfx since I think those things are the most important, so I compromised on graphics scale by using the Gameboy sprites as a base. An approach using SNES sprites or similar would need to compromise on other stuff in fact, like framerate, animation frames/moves etc. 512kb chipram means cuts need to be made one way or the other "
And that's all there is to say so far, but for further information visit the link below.
