The Commodore Amiga scene gets another exciting new project, as developer Str1der has announced an ambitious conversion of Capcom’s classic arcade hit, Black Tiger, targeting the Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200. Rather than building from scratch, this release is a direct port of the latest Sega Mega Drive/Genesis conversion project hosted on GitHub by Rester159. While Str1der utilized AI tools to significantly accelerate the initial coding and development phase, they emphasized that the transition has been far from automated. Bringing the game to the Amiga has required extensive manual labor, including endless hours of rigorous testing and adapting months of previous foundation work built for their proprietary Shinobi engine.
This migration to a heavily optimized and faster iteration of the Shinobi engine has allowed Str1der to pack the Amiga version with a wealth of custom features. The graphics have been completely remapped to maximize the system's vibrant 32-color palette, giving a fresh visual edge to the horizontal playfield originally designed by Capcom in 1987. Players can look forward to a comprehensive experience featuring an intro, dedicated title screen, an authentic arcade attract mode, custom sound effects, and a fully functional HUD and shop system. The core gameplay looks to remain faithful to the classic arcade game as well, challenging players to guide a lone barbarian through dangerous landscapes while whipping walls for hidden secrets and collecting coins to purchase vital armor upgrades, whip-like weapons, chest keys, and anti-poison potions.
