NYBBLE & NIBBLE - An impressive AI Amiga game, that isn't actually AI Slop

Welcome to NYBBLE & NIBBLE, a new Commodore Amiga port of the original Commodore 64 adventure. Developed by Gaboo Arts Entertainment, the game translates its signature 60-room journey into a visually stunning experience for the Amiga. Players guide a tiny, half-byte protagonist named Nybble across six distinct zones of compact, rhythmic platforming challenges, searching for their missing half. While the game faithfully preserves the movement mechanics of the C64 original—including precise wall-jumps and a versatile eight-direction air dash—it transforms the game for the Amiga with beautifully reworked graphics, richer scenery, and custom Amiga music and sound effects that make the fictional, glowing circuit-board environments truly come alive.

Looking through the EAB forums for feedback from those who have played the game already, are  praising it as one of the slickest titles to hit the system for awhile, noting that it plays with the polish and inventiveness of a modern indie game. Remarkably, the developer managed to optimize this experience to run on a standard OCS Amiga with just 1MB of RAM. By cleverly pairing Copper-based PCHG techniques with standard HAM6 graphics and hardware sprites, the engine regularly pushes over 300 colors on screen simultaneously alongside advanced lighting effects. It is a triumphant showcase of what a developer can achieve with the correct use of AI.

  • Requires 1 MB RAM: an Amiga 500 with 512 KB Chip RAM and a 512 KB expansion, or an Amiga 1200 with 2 MB Chip RAM.
  • PAL and NTSC modes are supported. Testing has been carried out in WinUAE using Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200 configurations, including an NTSC playthrough. The game has also been tested on THEA500 Mini.
