Acidbottle has officially announced another project to add to his ever growing list of Amiga releases, with the aim to bring Atari’s historic 1981 arcade blockbuster, Centipede, straight to Commodore Amiga. The forthcoming port is designed to run beautifully across the entire Amiga family, fully supporting OCS, ECS, and AGA configurations. For younger players or those needing a refresher, the golden-age original was designed by legendary creators Dona Bailey and Ed Logg. It stood as a monumental commercial triumph for Atari, heavily celebrated for breaking industry boundaries by attracting a massive audience of female gamers.
The upcoming Amiga version promises a pixel-perfect recreation of the coin-op classic. Players will command their bug blaster at the bottom of the screen, tasked with blasting away at a segmented centipede as it twists and marches down a crowded mushroom patch. True to the arcade pacing, you will need to clear every section of the insect to move onto the next level while dodging erratic spiders, disruptive fleas, and venomous scorpions. Excitingly, the developer is including a high score saving feature directly to disk, ensuring that your hard-earned best runs won't vanish when you power down your system.
