The legendary 1980's beat-’em-up franchise has been reimagined in the form of Double Dragons, an ambitious new PC release designed as an alternate-history sequel to the series’ first two mainline entries. Billed as a love letter to original creator Yoshihisa Kishimoto, this championship-edition brawler imagines an alternate timeline where Japan's Technosoft stepped up to challenge Capcom’s Final Fight crown. Treating the original games as post-apocalyptic New York folklore, this instalment promises a definitive, untold story line, complete with a proper conclusion and a sharp twist ending. Alongside upgraded pixel art and quality-of-life gameplay enhancements, the title features an expansive campaign spanning 6 major missions and 14 distinct levels, packed with more weapons, bosses, and enemy variants than ever before.
Beyond its core campaign, the release introduces a staggering roster of 20 playable fighters—including the highly requested palette-swapped rival Jeff—with each character receiving their own unique ending sequence. Players can even toggle a brutal "Blood Mode" that equips every fighter with distinct fatality finishers. The package is rounded out by three retro-inspired mini-games: a wrestling-style WWF King of the Ring brawl, a three-way fighter called Player Vs Player + (heavily inspired by the classic International Karate +), and a martial arts throwback titled A Fistful of Yen, which pays homage to the Commodore 64 classic Bruce Lee.
