The 1980s American comedy-drama superhero television series 'The Greatest American Hero' has received a video game adaptation, courtesy of Commodore Spain. Developed for the Commodore 64, this release serves as a heartfelt tribute to mark the show's 45th anniversary. For those who remember the cult classic—known affectionately in Spain as El gran héroe americano—the story centers on Ralph Hinkley, an everyday high school teacher who receives an extraterrestrial suit that grants him phenomenal superpowers. The comedic catch, of course, is that Ralph immediately loses the alien instruction manual, leaving him to figure out his newfound abilities through chaotic trial and error.
In this new C64 game by Commodore Spain, you play as a vulnerable Ralph across the outskirts of the city on a desperate quest to track down and capture the very UFOs that gifted him the suit. He hopes to secure a replacement copy of the instructions, but the journey is fraught with peril. A variety of enemies have mobilized to thwart his mission, well aware that keeping Ralph separated from his manual ensures he remains vulnerable and unable to unleash the suit's full potential. The game captures the exact campy charm of the original 80s broadcast, offering fans a piece of interactive game related television history.
