Freeciv - A worthy Open-Source Inspired Civilization game!

It's a bit of an open source day today as another game had reached an updated build (although some time ago), is the all conquering and empire building game ' FreeCiv ', which is a free and open source empire-building strategy game based on the Civilization title inspired by the history of the human civilization.

This is Freeciv, which is a Free and Open Source empire-building strategy game inspired by the history of the human civilization. The game commences in prehistory and your mission is to lead your tribe from the Stone Age to the Space Age. So be prepared to spend many many hours moving units about, taking over other civilizations, building your empire and generally losing a lot of sleep, it's that addictive.

Heads up Civilization gamers, Jon Shafer the designer behind Civilization 5 has announced that he has formed a new Michigan-based studio, and launched a Kickstarter to fund its first game. True to form this is very much like a Civilization game, but it isn't Civilization, this game is "At the Gates". A 4X turn-based strategy title set during a period of the Roman Empire in collapse. You take on the role of a barbarian tribe that is looking to carve a path for itself and establish itself as the new master of Europe.
