Sam Mallard The Case of the Missing Swan - Adventuring for the ZX Spectrum 48K

This seems to happen a lot, you go away on a much needed break and along comes a rather nice looking homebrew game for a retro system. Welcome to 'Sam Mallard - The Case of the Missing Swan' by Ersh, for the ZX Spectrum 48K. If you love your command based adventure games such as "look" and "use" with a story to match, then this game with its black and white pallet is just the game for you.

Surprisingly this game was actually planned on the C64 some 10 years ago, but with a handful of pictures to one side, it never really got off the ground at least until now on the ZX. As a bit of fun from those very pictures, he coded the entire game from scratch in assembly including the code, puzzles, story and graphics, which he says took about a month.

It certainly makes a change from all the platformers we keep mentioning and playing as a detective trying to solve the next mystery certainly has its charm. Id have to say this game is actually close to my favourite type of genres, as I was a huge fan of games such as Shannara as that too although modern had a command based interface. Just be aware this game is rather short, so lets hope it will end up as  a big ZX Spectrum game worthy of going commercial.
