Star Cruiser - Japanese Sega Mega Drive RPG gets a full English translation

What a great start to the week and it's just about to get so much better, as celcion, cccmar and KenshinX have released the full English translation public beta of the seriously cool action adventure RPG 'Star Cruiser' for the Sega Mega Drive. Originally this was a Japanese game developed by Arsys Software and released in Japan for the PC-88, Sharp X1, NEC PC-98 and Sharp X68000 and ported by Masaya (NCS) to the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis home console in 1990.

According to a number of sources, Star Cruiser was considered very innovative and ahead of its time, more notable for its 3D polygon graphics, a cool soundtrack and an interesting plot with unexpected occurrences. The game allowed you to walk in first person in a 3D environment and to travel via your space ship to a number of planets in deep flight with inclusive polygon based combat. Surprisingly all the detail in the game were rendered in 3D polygons, many years before they were widely adopted by the video game industry.

And now thanks to the translators and feedback from the community, Star Cruiser is available to download and play as a public beta with only about 1-2% of translation left to do, from the recent update. So make sure to head on over to the forums for further information and file availability, you may need the original JP rom for this to work.
