Ask anyone that has played Battle Squadron on the Amiga, and they would tell you that not only was it one of the best shooters on the system, but it made great use of the Amiga's capabilities with power-ups, graphics and sound... As one person puts it "For 1989, this was something special". Well fast forward to today and as a surprising heads up by a good friend of ours, we've been told that Bitwise Brains has made available a nod to this awesome classic, called Battle Squadron 2!
While those that have seen Battle Squadron 2 have given feedback such as "very nice, the sounds are super satisfying" and "the music is fantastic at the beginning. It sounds like a movie soundtrack😎👍". Here's the latest from the team behind the game itself. "bitwise brains entry for AmiGameJam 2024. Pilot your ship through three stages of enemy waves and face the final boss. Loop back to beginning after defeating the boss and go for a high score".

very well made, super smooth, of course there are various things missing , bosses etc and variety but the guys that build this have potential to create another console quality game on ECS , still a lot to do but its smooth and addictive!
ReplyDeleteLow graphics quality for a Amiga 500 if you compare with the first Battle Squadron , but it running smooth and have nice animations , Let see if this work be 100 %.
ReplyDeletewell said!
DeleteAmazing!
ReplyDeleteKinda bold when a fan game calls itself a sequel to a fondly remembered game from decades before. It doesn't feel very Battle Squadron to me but let's see how it develops.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but it is in no way comparable to the 1st Battle Squadron. I don't understand why it's called "2".
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Disappointing.
DeleteTo do list:
ReplyDelete1. Change the name
2. Change the size from 2:3 to 16:9
Il PC-ENGINE e' molto superiore rispetto all'Amiga. A parte Disposable Hero, Hybrid, Banshee, Apidya, Project-X, Tubular Worlds, e ovviamente il Re degli shooter Trauma 0 !!
ReplyDeleteWell...you're simply forgetting SWIV,the best vertical shooter for 16 bits ever realized! And a lot of great shooters like Agony,Blastar and good arcade conversions too like r-type 2,Saint dragon etc... the pc engine was better programmed but Amiga was the superior machine!
DeleteLet's forget the title... GFX, music and playability are good. Enenemies patterns need more work. I think It as the potential to become a good Amiga shooter.
ReplyDeleteI like it- yes, it needs more work but I thoroughly enjoyed playing it.
ReplyDeleteI do not know Battle Squadron 1, so I can not compare these two games, but, man, this Battle Squadron 2 LOOKS and SOUND just my cup of tea! Nice work.
