It's too HOT and it's a Sunday, so I should be chilling with a nice Cider and the fan on full power! But Saberman was quick to give me the heads up on his return from holiday, about a new Commodore Amiga demo that's recently surfaced, called 'Zorkland' by Amiten Games. A classic-style arcade shooter that he says is "A lost gem from 2013, reborn in 2025!". To coincide with this news, provided below is some gameplay footage, game description and feature listing.
And here's the details. "ZorkLand is a classic-style arcade shooter developed for the Commodore Amiga. Originally created in 2013, this project has been revived and polished in 2025 to finally see the light. Built to harness the unique power of the Extra Half-Brite (EHB) mode, ZorkLand pushes the Amiga to display up to 64 colors simultaneously—a visual treat for retro fans".
🚀 Features
- 🎮 Fast-paced, no-nonsense arcade action
- 🌈 Crisp pixel graphics using the EHB mode for enhanced depth and color
- 🧠 Progressive enemy waves with increasingly complex patterns
- 💾 Fully compatible with real Amiga machines (ECS/AGA) and modern emulators
- 🎶 Retro-style sound effects and atmosphere
Tough to get too excited when we just saw MILV. Graphics for the background are kind of bland, and the ship and enemies are a bit boring. The sound effects are a bit bland
ReplyDeleteAgree. Also the background should be scrolling, it would make the game look and feel much more dynamic.
DeleteCommendable that you are using EHB and still going for ECS. However, it is possible to get 50-60 colors on screen using copper trick (project X is between 60-70 colors) without using EHB mode and sacrificing frame rate..

ReplyDeleteIt is hard to make a good shooter in AMOS. This game looks like Space Invaders or Galaga rather than any other vertical or horizontal shooter. There is a small number of on-screen enemies and strange "movement" of the bullets that follow the movement of your ship.

ReplyDeleteToo early for a demo as there are too many unimpressive things about it.
ReplyDelete1 alien and 1 saucer
2 unimaginative power ups
1 movement path
Jerky ship movement ( low frame rate )
Sorry but can't get excited at the moment. Good luck though
It seems they removed that game from their page.
