In 2012 Locomalito released Maldita Castilla for the PC which was a fantastic arcade platformer homage to Ghost'n'Goblins, and many others while taking influences from medieval paintings and places, and inspired by the best chivalry book ever: The Amadis of Gaul. It was indeed one of the finest retro inspired games I have ever played! Well, here's a rather special heads up if you also thought this game was awesome, as PlayOnRetro has announced it is coming to both the Dreamcast and Sega Mega Drive with a planned boxed edition.
This lineal action-arcade game when it was released for the PC, gathered unanimous recognition both from gamers and critics, not only for its addictive gameplay but for being a double tribute also: on the one hand, to classic arcades from the 80s such as Tiger Road, Shinobi or Ghosts'n'Goblins; on the other hand, to Spanish and European medieval history and legends. In terms of the upcoming classic console versions however, they will traverse across two different approaches. The Mega Drive which is a reinterpretation featuring alternative routes, new challenges, and original content designed specifically for the 16-bit console. And the Dreamcast — a version focused on preserving the pure arcade spirit of the original game, including the unprecedented option of two simultaneous players thanks to Doña Jimena.
Sadly however we don't know when the game will be released, but there's talk of a Kickstarter campaign that's due this September to gauge interest... So watch this space

Looks really great.
