The legendary alien armada has returned to the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, but Earth's defenders no longer have to face the threat alone. A definitive new homebrew release and a reinvention of an Arcade classic, Space Invaders Co-Op Edition, successfully marries faithful 1970s arcade mechanics with modern couch co-op gameplay. If that doesn't pull you in then, you'll be interested to know the game has enhanced visuals, high-quality sound effects, and score counters extended to 5 digits. Just like the original arcade!
The headline feature of this custom edition however is its simultaneous two-player mode. Players share a single pool of lives to survive the descending grid, but still compete against each other for the crown of top defender. To settle post-match rivalries, the game introduces a dynamic End-of-Game Awards system. The software calculates in-depth performance statistics after each match, dishing out hefty bonus points for specific tactical achievements. Single-player pilots are not left out; a solo Game Over screen provides detailed individual stat tracking to help players refine their strategies with an inclusive single player choice that is just like the arcade.
The technical enhancements include:

Fresh air for an all-time classic! And it's not "teaching an old horse new tricks", it's a brilliant redemption of one of the building blocks of the videogame era. Co-op on the finest ZX Spectrum port of the game is something that brings countless hours of pure shoot'em all fun. Love the config and hiscores save and load feature; and the scoring system. Highly reccomend to play on doubles, support for dual joystick Kempston interface it's a breeze. Worth every penny, should be in GOTY 2026.
