This impressive demake features all 100 levels from the original NES release, while drawing heavy aesthetic inspiration from the beloved Amiga and SNES versions. Players can expect faithful gameplay mechanics, adorable pixel art, and a catchy, nostalgic soundtrack as they guide the green-haired creatures to safety.
Developed by John Buise (also known as Buzzard), this newly released 2026 PICO-8 demake stands as a passionate, non-commercial tribute to DMA Design’s 1991 retro classic. A major highlight of the project is its authentic chiptune soundtrack, which was crafted by Eric Billingsley to perfectly translate the iconic NES score into the PICO-8's unique audio format. Additionally, Buise highlighted that the entire conversion was made possible by utilizing the CANVAS and PAKRAT software libraries developed by MissMouse.
