The Demon Jar - A short horror based illustrated text adventure game for multiple systems such as Amiga, C64...

Yet another Amiga game and the last one for this weekend hopefully, is The Demon Jar; or, Fosdyke's Folly, a retro-style illustrated text adventure game designed as a short horror story for the Amstrad, Amiga, Atari ST, C64, Plus4, and ZX Spectrum (NEXT). Crafted by developer Alan Pemberton, the game transports players to a fine summer evening at the absolute height of the Victorian era. Stepping into the shoes of a young gentleman named Oswald Stanley, players set off to visit an old college companion, only for the night to take a deeply sinister turn as a murderous evil spirit emerges from the shadows. What follows is a adventure crafted to chill Oswald to his very marrow, leaving it entirely up to the player's choices to guide him safely through the harrowing night.

While seasoned adventurers will likely conquer the game's straightforward puzzles in a single sitting, the author has issued a clear warning that the experience is not suitable for children or anyone with a nervous disposition. The game was built using the classic DAAD Ready adventure writing system, an engine resurrected with the help of Stefan Vogt, while the title's bespoke graphics were generated with assistance from AI tools like Google Flow and ChatGPT. Notably, the developer has cleverly commandeered the traditional RAMSAVE and RAMLOAD functions to act as a modern "UNDO" mechanism, allowing players to instantly roll back to safety if they make a fatal misstep. With play-testing support from David Walton and Andrew Ryals, and multi-platform conversions handled by the heavy lifting of the 1990s Aventuras AD engine, this spooky release delivers an authentic, text-driven haunting for expanded Amiga setups and multiple vintage systems alike.
