Zabij Ducha - Endless platformer by a Polish developer comes to the ZX Spectrum
It's a Friday and what better way to spend the end of the week and through the weekend, than playing the latest ZX Spectrum game called ' Zabij Ducha (Kill Ghost)' by Polish developer Ralf. Classed as an endless platformer, or runner for some, you play as a little guy who has to jump nonstop from platform to platform while both avoiding and shooting at ghosts until they are all gone. Just be careful not to fall off, or you may end up as a ghost yourself!
Golden Axe Mod - Original Hack 'n slash Beat 'em up modified for the ZX Spectrum
In 1989 Sega released the incredible side scrolling, beat 'em up, hack and slash fighter for the Arcades and for the Mega Drive/Genesis. It involved lots of weapon swiping against enemies and big bosses, riding mythical beasts, different levels, picking up potions, calling forth great power and giving the player the choice of a multitude of different characters. It just had to be the amazing ' Golden Axe ' which was also ported to other home systems such as DOS, Amiga, Atari ST, Amstrad, C64 and ZX Spectrum, In fact it's the ZX Spectrum version we are talking about today, as a creator by the name of Ralf has decided the Amstrad conversion was not good enough and changed much of the colours and detail to what he felt should've been released!
Uroboros - A new take on Snake for the ZX Spectrum
Uroboros developed by Ralf, is a recent ZX Spectrum game competition entry in Poland that takes the original Snake game concept and adds a number of interesting ideas that really makes for a great homebrew release. Rather than the usual snake game play of just eating and growing, Uroboros adds a new twist of grabbing your tail to complete the level after you have attained a high enough score. Furthermore each level has a number of obstacles and a border that hinders your score ranking.
Archeomania - Brilliant Tetris Plus inspired ZX Spectrum remake
I feel sorry for the C64 lately as it seems the ZX Spectrum homebrew scene are getting more and more great releases that are out to impress. We even had the more recent ZX inspired Speccyjam with lots of lovely free retro inspired games to play. So here we are with Archeomania; a great Tetris style game developed by Ralf that has a pretty interesting twist. Unlike the usual Tetris with falling shaped blocks to make a filled line, in this one you need to save a girl by erasing the block rows underneath her in that usual Tetris style. If she reaches the bottom you've done it, but if she doesn't she'll end up being squashed by the spikes above.
