Adventure fans rejoice! A fan made sequel to Loom, LucasArts’ 1990 adventure-game masterpiece is in development and this looks to amaze the fan base of any LucasArts adventure gamer. Apparently Loom was supposed to have been followed by two additional stories, each following a different protagonist; but these games were sadly never made. Thus feeling the love lost, the team behind this fan based sequel, hope to carry on the story in the same vintage pixel-art style of the early 1990s.
The story follows Rusty, who has taken it upon himself to rescue his family and home. Along the way he will meet a mix of eccentric characters from a variety of fantastic guilds, with all the charm that made Loom so enjoyable. The Guild of Miners, The Order of Woodcutters, the Guild of Florists, and the Guild of Vintners will each have a part to play in Rusty’s adventure, just to name a few.
The Original Loom was a fantastic game albeit rather unusual, in the fact that it was centered more towards an audio adventure, fans of the original will know what i mean.
The original LucasArts adventure - Loom
Although the game is still in development, the Progress is on a swift pace, as such they are planning to release the fully playable demo of the entire chapter one during Spring 2013.
After that they hope to find new, dedicated team members to work on the following release, which will be the complete game itself
There is a Tech Demo available, however the demo may well be some ways advanced beyond even the screenshots. It will be interesting to see how close this adventure comes to the original loom flavor.
