Wing Warriors - Vertical shooter entry announced for the MSXdev’15 is finally here!
A new week begins and we have just learnt of the release of the vertical shoot em up ' Wing Warriors ' for the MSX! Developed by EGS/Kitmaker in a ROM size of 32kb and the first announced entry in the MSXDEV'15 Compo, you have a choice of three selectable characters and much travel through different scenarios battling many strange enemies that will stop at nothing from blowing you out of the sky!
As per usual with many of my retro heads up I do like to give the game a quick go, and when it comes to this one, I was a bit disappointed. Although for MSX owners it's great to have even more homebrews appearing, this one suffers from very poor scrolling with very jittery landscapes. Plus when you're shooting back at enemies, the smoothness of the controls becomes a frustration. Add in that, plus the lack of sound effects and a high difficulty, it isn't the best of games I've played on an MSX, even if I was using an emulator.
The only positives I can think of for the game is nice enough detail, lots of enemies to shoot at and a great soundtrack!
