S.P.R.E.R.O - A C64 H.E.R.O game created using only sprites gets an update!

Sometime back we mentioned the classic game of H.E.R.O, was being overhauled for the C64 as a vastly superior version of a classic game which was first released way back in the 1980's for the Atari 800/2600, 7800, ColecoVision, C64, C128 and ZX Spectrum. Sadly it looks as if that version of the game isn't going to be released any time soon (if ever), but not to be too despondent, as we've just been informed via Saberman that Oziphantom's(Protovision) has released an update to his sprite only version of H.E.R.O for the C64 called S.P.R.E.R.O.

In this game which is based on an all time classic game called H.E.R.O. You play as ' Roderrick Hero ' and must search the cave system for the miners of Mount Leone, who have been trapped deep below after a recent volcanic situation that has occurred. The game features multiple levels, different themed underground areas, dangerous enemies such as spiders, and dynamite to blow up walls to reach the miners trapped below.

  2. how to start the game?

  3. ALL sprites? Very clever!

  4. Hi sorry to put this here but I didn't know where else it could go.
Are you a hobbyist game developer and Interested in remaking your favourite retro games but don't have a team? Are you a 3d modeller or a pixel-artist? Animator? Audio chiptune composer? Unity/Unreal savvy? C# engineer?
Then come check out the Retro Game Developer Community!
It's a new Discord server run by fellow game devs willing to work on remakes, and set up for folks to come along and find other parties interested in forming collaborative dev teams to modernize older games from back in the heyday of the Amiga, ST, Speccy and the C64. Join a current project or try to assemble a dream team. WIP's will be given as much support as possible and the game projects hosted publicly on github for others to advise and critique, with intent to grow into a melting pot of talented devs who can fit in a couple of hours a week to reboot the legacies of the past.

Even if you're not a dev there are rooms to discuss potential improvements over the originals where your input could be valuable, so please drop by.
    Thanks! Spread the word!

  5. LOL OK, new games are always good but why...

  6. I don't know what the point is of these clones or copycat games. H.E.R.O already exists, and it even looks the same, bringing me to the graphics - 40 years ago, this might have sufficed, but not anymore: this game looks horrible, a graphics update would have worked wonders here, missed opportunity.
