The day has only just begun and already Indie Retro News is on the case with the latest news! As we have just found out through the Lemon64 forums, that aNdy_AL_C0S is working a PETSCII edition of Outrun called 'OutRun PETSCII' for the Commodore 64. A soon to be released variation of a classic game, that has been designed in a PETSCII style also known as CBM ASCII. If you haven't heard of OutRun before, this racing game was a huge success in the 1980's in the Arcades and was later ported over to other systems originally designed by Yu Suzuki.
Here's the latest from the developer. "OutRun PETSCII is nearing completion! Here is a test build of the intro and game, with a random route taken through the stages while Sean 'Odie' Connelly's version of 'Magical Sound Shower' plays in the background. Collisions with the roadside objects and other road vehicles are switched off for this test. Still some work to be done on the gear change and some of the status panels. All course data in now complete and as accurate as possible to the arcade version within reason!"
While I'm unsure when the game will be released, rest assured as soon it is you'll be the first to know!

First the Game Boy Color Port and now this!
ReplyDeleteOutrun fans be dining well lately!
Probably the best PETSCII game ever. It's fantastic and run fast!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's more of an interesting thing, not good for playing. I think there are more possibilities in ASCII graphics than that. It's more of an interesting thing, not good for playing. I think there are more possibilities in ASCII graphics than that.
