OutRun Amiga Edition - A vastly superior version of a classic racer has arrived on the Amiga! (40th anniversary of OutRun Update)

In 1986 Sega released one of the greatest racers of our time, it just had to be Out Run. An Arcade racer designed by Yu Suzuki, that was not only a commercial success, but became one of the best selling games of its time. A game that featured incredible graphics, fantastic music and fast paced track racing. Thankfully other people remember this Arcade classic, as we've recently found out, that reassembler has finally released his vastly superior version of Outrun for the Commodore Amiga. A version of the game which he hopes has put right "one of the nastiest Amiga arcade ports".

OuT.Rex - An Outrun Dinosaur Game mash up for the Commodore Amiga by Fourseasons

The Commodore Amiga scene has a rather unique addition with the release of Out.Rex, a charming homebrew title developed by Fourseasons. Built using the classic AMOS BASIC programming language, this fresh game delivers a heavy dose of 16-bit nostalgia by merging two wildly different eras of gaming history. Out.Rex reimagines Google’s iconic, built-in Chrome Dino game through the lens of SEGA's legendary 1986 arcade racer, OutRun. 

OutRun AGA - Retrodnagames Outrun for the Amiga 1200 looks super awesome! (DEMO)

In 1986 Sega released one of the greatest arcade racers of our time called Out Run. A game designed by Yu Suzuki, that was not only a commercial success, but became one of the best selling games of its time. A game that featured incredible racing graphics and fantastic music. Sadly the Amiga version wasn't all that great, and even though we had the incredible release of OutRun Amiga Edition which still needed the original roms and a pretty powerful Amiga. It wasn't until now however, that a demo has been made available for 'Outrun AGA' by retrodnagames (Agermose on EAB). A new version that requires no accelerators, no extra roms and requires just an Amiga 1200 and above.

OutRun PETSCII is looking rather spectacular on the C64!

The day has only just begun and already Indie Retro News is on the case with the latest news! As we have just found out through the Lemon64 forums, that aNdy_AL_C0S is working a PETSCII edition of Outrun called 'OutRun PETSCII' for the Commodore 64. A soon to be released variation of a classic game, that has been designed in a PETSCII style also known as CBM ASCII. If you haven't heard of OutRun before, this racing game was a huge success in the 1980's in the Arcades and was later ported over to other systems originally designed by Yu Suzuki.

A what if OutRun was released for the Game Boy Color project by Rocketship Park

Already Indie Retro News is on the case with the latest news, as here we have the latest project of Outrun for the Game Boy Colour by Rocketship Park. A game that was released in 1986 by Sega in the Arcades, with later ports to systems such as the Amstrad, Amiga and many others....Just not the Game Boy Colour! So to change all that here's Rocketship Park's latest project, which not only looks super cool, it runs and sounds almost like the original game...NICE :)

If you read my retrofreaks’s guidelines, you know that I don’t normally review ports, console or arcades games. Mostly I do this to give exclusive PC games a chance to shine. But how about arcade ports released on the PC? And instead of reviews, why not a Top10? Think of it as a way to bend my guidelines. But before that, some basic rules:

Slipstream - Another retro inspired racer, but this time reviewed by Thermoptic!

I'm going to get straight to the point, if you love old school arcade racers, beautiful pixel graphics and drifting then you need to keep on reading! Slipstream was successfully funded on Kickstarter back in 2016. It was presented as an racing game that drew inspiration from the old games from the 80s and early 90s and it definitely shows! You can clearly see that the classic arcade games like Outrun and OutRunners was a big inspiration for Slipstream. The game is now finally released and we just had to try this out!

Outrun New Year Music Demo 2017 - Blasting away those classic Outrun tunes on the Atari ST

I thought it time to mention a bit of Atari news for tonight, much to the delight of AtariCrypt. As in celebration of a new year, Peter Jørgensen (bionic nerd) has made available an exceedingly good music demo on the Atari ST called 'Outrun New Year Music Demo 2017'. Yes you guessed it, that classic racing game known as Outrun which was a huge hit in the 1980's in the Arcades and ported over to other systems and designed by Yu Suzuki, is going to blast away your retro speakers as many of the tracks from Outrun are ready for your listening pleasure on the Atari ST.

Slipstream - Retro inspired racer gets an updated Demo

We recently mentioned the Steam Greenlight success of ' Slipstream ' developed by Noctet Studio,  an arcade racing game inspired by the visuals, music, games and cars from the 80's and 90's with 4 game modes, 30 different tracks, 4 playable cars and 8 original cars. Well that same game, which is still needs to gain a good amount of Kickstarter pledges to be a success, has recently been updated with a new demo to whet your appetite.

Classics such as Lotus, Outrun and Jaguar XJ220 comes to mind that are still difficult to match even to this day, at least until now. Going through our list of Steam Greenlight campaigns and games of interest, we are happy to announce that 'Slipstream' by Ansdors is not only a Steam Greenlight success, but the developers have also made available a PC and Mac/Linux demo. Although we did a big feature on the game earlier this year (Link) Slipstream has the atmosphere of 80’s and 90’s games like OutRun, Daytona USA and Super Hang-On while featuring Pseudo3D rendering as an arcade-style checkpoint racing game across 15 different tracks!

Red Hot Overdrive - Impressive free racer with a hint of nostalgia

I'm not usually one for writing articles at midnight, but when I checked out Red Hot Overdrive by AprilSkies I knew my readers would be in for a treat. For those of you who remember games such as Outrun or Lotus on the Amiga, this is one of those games. A third person racing experience that takes us back to the gaming 90's with cool weather effects, great music and the thrill of the speed.
