Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged - An incredible Adventure game from 1996 with glorious 4K visuals and more!

Well this is amazing news, as if you were a huge fan of the Broken Sword games, more especially the Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars, which is a graphic adventure developed by Revolution Software and published by Virgin Interactive back in 1996. Will pleased to know that this incredible game has been re-released as a Reforged edition through GOG and Steam. A new edition of the game which now features "glorious 4K visuals and iconic remastered audio, pitching intrepid American George Stobbart and fearless journalist Nico Collard into a journey of perilous adventures and ancient conspiracies".

Utopia Must Fall - A chaotic Arcade shooter that's worth checking out via Steam (Early Access)

The Crimson Diamond - A glorious nod to classic 80's Adventure games via Itch and Steam!

We turn our attention away from 8bit gaming for this latest update, as if you're looking for a high quality Adventure game to keep you company via Itch io and Steam, then you may be interested in playing Julia Minamata's glorious nod to classic 80's Adventure games of 'The Crimson Diamond'; A game in which you play as amateur geologist and reluctant detective Nancy Maple to the ghost town of Crimson, Ontario to investigate the discovery of a massive diamond! Ambermoon.net - Open source remake of a fantastic CRPG gets a brand new 1.9.4 release!

Originally released in 1993 for the Amiga by Thalion Software, Ambermoon was the second part of an unfinished trilogy and sequel to Amberstar that was only released in Germany. In was an incredible RPG for its time, and featured 3D graphics that were considered revolutionary for the Amiga, but sadly for the company it couldn't save them from collapse. Well today's news is another special heads up for fans of this great game, as Pyrdacor has released the latest Ambermoon.net update of version 1.9.4: An open source Linux, Mac, Pi4 and Windows remake of this fantastic CRPG.

Chaluul's Curse - A remake of a PC adventure game originally released in 1995

We've mentioned lots of text adventure games on Indie Retro News, from those released on the Amstrad, to the more recent ones on the Commodore 64. Well here's another Adventure game you might like to try that has recently appeared on itch io, and it's BrocantyGames PC remake of 'Chaluul's Curse':  A PC adventure game originally released in 1995 on the cover CD of issue 11/95 of the German computer games magazine "PC Spiel", and then a later port as a C64 version by Sönke Wolfgramm in July of this year. 

The Telwynium - A Sierra inspired adventure trilogy that's worth checking out (Win/Linux/Mac)

Ladies and Gentlemen the late 80's and early 90's adventure graphical style is calling out to us once again. As a trilogy of games has just appeared in our news feeds that looks very much like the classic Kings Quest and Quest for Glory games right out of the DOS era. Welcome to ' The Telwynium: Book One, Book Two and Book Three ' by Powerhoof; a Sierra style series in which you are fleeing the Shadowfell with your childhood friends Tani and Witt, the irritable Uplander Otarr Stronghorn, and a colossal golem of mud and stone, summoned by the Aldor as the Shadowfell attacked (Book One).

Tiny Thor - A stylish Jump'n'Run game featuring pixel art from Henk Nieborg and music by Chris Hülsbeck! [GOG/Steam]

Our good friend Tom has contacted us regarding a lovely looking game called 'Tiny Thor', that is not only available for PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch and Steam OS/Linux, but features true 16-bit pixel art from Henk Nieborg, and the musical talents of the legend that is Chris Hülsbeck! This game which is a Jump'n'Run, goes beyond the usual genre, and combines elements of both action, puzzles and even skills with a unique ability to use your hammer as a powerful throwing weapon.

A Blast From The Past - A modern Galaxian remake that looks pretty decent! (Sega Mega Drive WIP too)

Galaxian has appeared on Indie Retro News many times over the years, especially as it is one particular Arcade classic that homebrew developers love making clones of with special effects and bonus power ups. Well here's a news update that is sure to excite those who love playing this game back in the day, as not only can you play what looks to be a very modernized version of Galaxian via Steam, but Happy Cactus Games Limited is also working on a Sega Mega Drive version too!

Hibernaculum - This sci-fi horror dungeon crawler looks bloody awesome!

I've always been a fan of the dungeon crawler, there's something to be said about moving through a dark underground passage, looking for loot, avoiding traps and fighting the many beasts that lurk within. In actual fact I'm more inclined to play an old retro first person grid based crawler than any top down modern one that's released today. And on that note, here's a dungeon crawler you should be keeping an eye on, and it's Wormwood Studios in development sci-fi horror dungeon crawler of Hibernaculum.

Retro Virtual Machine v2.1.0 - A feature packed emulator for Windows, MacOs and Linux

For those of you who have followed Indie Retro News throughout the years, you have probably noticed that we mainly feature retro games and PC(Windows) based news. But today I was contacted about a brand new emulator update for Windows, MacOs and Linux, that had some rather interesting features which could make it one of the best emulators to be used at home your PC. The emulator I'm going to mention is ' Retro Virtual Machine ' which is currently at version 2.1.0.

Lucy Dreaming - A humorous nod to classic Adventure games is coming to Steam 18th October!

I think it's about time we put those homebrew games aside and look towards an Adventure game that may excite those who played Adventure games throughout the 90's. As we've recently been informed through our email and Twitter, that Tall Story Games Ltd humorous point and click adventure game of 'Lucy Dreaming' is coming to Steam as of 18 Oct, 2022. To coincide with this news, you can either watch the trailer below or check out the latest Demo of the game which can be launched through Steam.

Return to Monkey Island - Follow-up to a classic Adventure series will be setting sail today! [Released]

The Secret of Monkey Island developed by Lucasfilm Games (later LucasArts) was originally released in 1990 and created by now industry legends Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer, and Dave Grossman. It was a game that has lived on the hearts of many with its fantastic pirate charm, brilliant characters, challenging yet enjoyable puzzles, and a story set in a fictional version of the Caribbean during the age of piracy. Well if you remember that fine game and have been keeping an eye out for the sequel of 'Return to Monkey Island', then as of today you can finally play the game with all its pirate charm! 

Kitsune Zero - A charming retro styled PC platformer as a nod to Super Mario Bros

If you want to play a new platformer that not only looks charming, but has plenty of enemies and challenges to be had, then as of this moment you can play the latest release of 'Kitsune Zero' by Kitsune Games. A lovely arcade platformer that isn't just a nod to classic retro games such as Super Mario Bros, but throughout the game you'll be running, jumping, and stomping on ghostlike creatures from Japanese folklore. Ex-zodiac - Move over Star Fox it's time for a new fast-paced rail shooter to play! (Windows, macOS, and Linux)

Trawling through the itch io website there's another game that might be worth checking out, and that's the latest early access release of Pixeljam and Ben Hickling's 'Ex-zodiac'; a game which isn't just available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, but from the look of the game it looks like it could be the next best thing for those of you who played the hit game of Star Fox/Star Wing; a game which was released way back in the 90's for the SNES. To coincide with this news, not only is there a new trailer, but you can download the game below.

Call of Saregnar - A nod to the era of party-based RPGs from the 90's such as Betrayal at Krondor gets a demo!

Most of us here love a good dungeon crawler, from Eye of the Beholder to Legend of Grimrock and even the more recent Might and Magic. But when it comes to Call of Saregnar; a new RPG by Rhuantavan that is still in development with a demo now available, things are rather different. You see Call of Saregnar isn't just a nod to classic RPG's of the 90's but from the look of the game you'd be mistaken in thinking it was it was a love letter to another one of my all time favorites Betrayal at Krondor; a game in which GOG says is one of the most classic RPGs, chosen as the RPG of the year in 1994

Prince Of Persia - A hit platformer from 1989 gets a Unity Remake by HoussamChab

Another interesting news story for you all, as we have just been told through twitter, that the all time classic platformer of 'Prince of Persia'; a game which has been released for many different systems back in 1989 by Broderbund and a more recent high quality Atari XL/XE port that was featured on Indie Retro News last year, has been made available as a Unity remake for both Windows and MAC by HoussamChab. 

Hyper Echelon - A high quality Shoot 'em up is coming to Steam Nov 11th and it looks great!

Growing up there was nothing more satisfying than playing top down scrolling shoot 'em ups such as the fantastic classic Tyrian and more especially Tyrian 2000 before it went open source in 2007. Coming completely out of the blue and one I think I'll be hooked on this week as an Adventure fan, is Clifftop Games retro-ish point and click adventure of ' Kathy Rain : Director's Cut'; an enhanced version of the award winning game which is available for PC, Mac and Linux. As for the story, which every cool adventure game needs, you play as Kathy Rain, as she tries to come to terms with her own troubled past as she investigates the mysterious death of her recently deceased grandfather!
