Classic arcade game 'Street Fighter II' has appeared on the Atari XL/XE!

Throughout this year IndieRetroNews Youtubber Saberman has been keeping you up to date with the latest developments of the impressive looking homebrew remake of Street Fighter II for the Atari XL/XE. Well this game which originally appeared on the Arcades, and was then ported to pretty much every system you could think of, has finally been converted over to the Atari XL/XE thanks to Krzysztof "Vega" Góra, Sim, Gaspar, Miker and GienekP.

Here's the full details. "This version of the game is based on the version from the GAME BOY. This game requires the 4MB cartridge and the standard ATARI XE/XL with 64KB. The game works on NTSC or PAL system. This game has a huge amount of 4KHz samples, images in Grah2Font and music in RMT format. You must defeat 9 opponents on your way to the finale, including 3 bosses. What’s more, the game also includes a bonus level of car destruction."

  2. It's crazy how ambitious this is! Though it would've probably been more feasible to approach it the way that MVC game on c64 - smaller chibi fighters and arenas presented as wide horizontal strips. Yes, it wouldn't be as authentic, but perhaps more playable? Still - hats off to the madlads for pulling this off!

    1. it uses an uncommon bank-switching method due to the many audio samples and images. A SUBCart with the new firmware can run it but there is also a shared project on PCBWay called "XCart" designed specifically for this game if youre handy with a soldering iron?

  8. I had a 65XE back in the day and never thought it was powerful enough to pull something like this off! Looks like something that would run on a C128. Impressive stuff.

  9. Subcart version 13 firmware has been released now which supports this 4mb cart format, and allows you to play sf2 on your stock 64k atari xl/xe. :)
