The Bard's Tale - One of the earliest RPG's makes an appearance on the Commodore Plus/4

The Plus/4 World website has surprised us with yet another new recovery! As they have informed the Plus/4 Facebook page, that the 1985 Interplay Productions RPG has been recovered for the Commodore Plus/4 by Csory and Siz. As in the words of the website. "Today, we put a period at the end of a very long story. We were talking about missing this release as far back as 2002, and many times after that. The good news: thanks to Csory and siz, we now have a working version of Bard's Tale"

Knight on the Moon - A Zelda like game is in development for the NES by kn56k

If you're looking for a new NES game to try and want one to satisfy your retro gaming needs, then look no further than this work in progress Zelda like game of 'Knight on the Moon' by Kn56k. A game which when finished, will not only features 8 directional movement, but there's 6 Large bosses, 5 main "dungeons", puzzle solving , exploration and weapons pickups and hidden secrets. The Tale - A new CRPG with PETSCII graphics for the Plus/4 by Synergy

Another Plus/4 announcement of which RPG genre fans might enjoy reading about, is the fact that Synergy has released the Ultima like CPRG of The Tale for the Commodore Plus/4. A full-fledged entry in the BASIC category of the Commodore Plus/4 játékfejlesztői verseny Plus/4 GameDev competition . A game that features rather large PETSCII graphics during the story. Ambermoon.net - Open source remake of a fantastic CRPG gets a brand new 1.9.4 release!

Originally released in 1993 for the Amiga by Thalion Software, Ambermoon was the second part of an unfinished trilogy and sequel to Amberstar that was only released in Germany. In was an incredible RPG for its time, and featured 3D graphics that were considered revolutionary for the Amiga, but sadly for the company it couldn't save them from collapse. Well today's news is another special heads up for fans of this great game, as Pyrdacor has released the latest Ambermoon.net update of version 1.9.4: An open source Linux, Mac, Pi4 and Windows remake of this fantastic CRPG.

Ambermoon - Open source fixer upper of a fantastic CRPG gets a new Amiga English and German update!

Today's news is yet another good 'un for fans of this great Dungeon Crawling/CRPG. As thanks to Pyrdacor letting us know once more through our Twitter page. He has said that if you head on over to the github website, you can try out the latest Amiga 1.12 English and 1.11 German update of the classic game of Ambermoon; an open source update of the original which gives it a new lick of paint with even further improvements and bug fixes!

Hired Sword 2 - A new C64 CRPG published through Double Sided Games gets a release



Get your wallets ready people as Double Sided Games have just announced another release for the Commodore 64 to help you through these tough times ahead! Yes indeed thanks to a twitter heads up from the publishers themselves, we've been told that they have not only made available the full boxed edition of the latest CRPG called 'Hired Sword 2', but you can also download it right now as a digital download by a team of great C64 retro heads such as Roy Riggs, Mike Richmond and Ten Chu.

The CRPG Book Update 19 - 528 pages of classic RPG goodness including images!


Throughout my youth I've always been an RPG gamer, I used to love playing games such as Dungeon Master, Lands of Lore, Albion or even the later style of Fallout, Baldurs Gate and Dark Messiah. Especially when I get to read a grand story of the adventures ahead, while choosing my own legendary hero to battle demon like foes and the hunt for lost treasures. There's just so many RPG's I've played and enjoyed, that it's also why I'm mentioning this latest announcement of 'The CRPG Book', which has 528 pages of highly detailed write ups about the games, including a mass load of RPG images.

Top 50 cRPGs by RPG Codex - Drool at the massive list of highly voted RPG listings!


Here on Indie Retro News this is the first time I've posted about another site that votes on games but this is well worth checking out. Through a massive list of classic RPG's (depending on your age), RPG codex have gone through them and given us their top 50! RPG Codex have also listed even further ones that didn't make it into the top 50 but pushed into a runner up listing. As they describe - This year, a record-breaking 234 bros & sis took part in the voting, where each would have 25 points to distribute among what they believed are the best cRPGs ever. Exactly 5,945 points where distribute between 223 computer RPGs (no console exclusives were allowed), ranging from Temple of Apshai - released in 1979 -, to Heroine's Quest - released in 2013. Overall, 34 years of glorious incline.

The Hero's Memory - Zelda Fan Based CRPG



A new Zelda Classic quest has been released by Aevin and it's a rather impressive one at that. Featuring a big overworld, containing 9 dungeons and 4 mini-dungeons that really keep to the feel of the original Zelda. As it's a CRPG or JPRG depending on who you ask, expect lots of role playing, with enemies to battle, items to collect, quests to achieve, puzzles and a brilliantly designed layout keeping to it's gaming roots.

Torment: Tides of Numenera - Story-driven CRPG



You know there's something special in the making when about four hours after it first appeared you are given a Kickstarter link to do a news article on a game that already has raised over $600,000 out of a total of $900,000, only to find that when you sit down to write the article two hours later that the project has already been fully funded and then some! It seems that you know about this game already! But for those that don't, Torment: Tides of Numenera is what everybody has been getting excited about!
