Porklike - It's the turn of the ZX Spectrum to get a port of a Pico 8 game!

HairyViking has released the ZX Spectrum port of Porklike, a classic, turn-based roguelike originally created by Krystian Majewski for the Pico-8 virtual console. True to its roots, the 8-bit adaptation preserves the minimalist, lo-fi aesthetic of the original while redesigning the experience to run seamlessly on the iconic ZX Spectrum. The game tasks players with infiltrating the treacherous tower of the nefarious Wurstlord, navigating nine levels packed with hazardous traps, deadly blockades, and hostile encounters.

Brutal Pico Race - Another Pico-8 game comes over to the Amiga via BSzili [WIP]

Following on from our previous PICO-8 news story, as BSzili has began porting the rather enjoyable PICO-8 futurist racing game, Brutal Pico Race, over to the Commodore Amiga. Following the positive feedback of his previous fantasy console conversion, the space shooter Zepton, the talented coder has once again bridged the gap between modern retro restrictions and classic 16-bit hardware. Originally created by yourykiki, this adrenaline-fueled, split-screen racer pushes the classic Amiga chipset to its limits with high-speed pseudo-3D visuals and raw arcade gameplay. The release adds yet another impressive trophy to BSzili's growing portfolio of high-quality Amiga demakes and ports.

Lemmings - An all time classic has arrived on the Pico-8 by Buzzard, and it's seriously good!

Well this is incredible news, as if you own a PICO-8, which is a virtual machine and game engine created by Lexaloffle Games. Then you'll be pleased to know that Buzzard has successfully ported Lemmings to the PICO-8. This impressive demake features all 100 levels from the original NES release, while drawing heavy aesthetic inspiration from the beloved Amiga and SNES versions. Players can expect faithful gameplay mechanics, adorable pixel art, and a catchy, nostalgic soundtrack as they guide the green-haired creatures to safety.

Zepton - This upcoming Commodore Amiga Pico-8 port by BSzili looks fabulous

Well this is a bit of a surprise, as looking through the EAB forums this week, I've come across an early build of Zepton for the Commodore Amiga, a conversion of the popular PICO-8 voxel shoot-'em-up. Ported by developer Szilárd Bíró aka BSzili, the early version brings the fast-paced 3D scaling action of the original game over to classic Amiga hardware. However, its future remains uncertain as the developer seeks community input before committing to further updates.

Nebulus - An 8bit classic as a fan-remake for the PICO-8, as well as browser play!

If you have a Pico-8 or wanting to play a rather lovely remake via your browser you might like this news story, as trawling through the itch io page, we've just come across a fan based remake for the Pico-8 called 'Nebulus'. Yes indeed if you remember the 1980's game originally released by Hewson Consultants for systems such as the Amstrad, Amiga, Atari ST, C64 and ZX Spectrum. Will be pleased to know you can play the game as a remake via your browser or through the Pico-8 running at 60fps in the console's undocumented hi-res and hi-color mode thanks to carlc27843: (128x256 resolution with the full 32 color palette, fitting into a single cart (17152+15616 bytes data+lua).

Alex Kidd in Pico World - A fabulous Alex Kidd demake for the Pico8 virtual console

While many of you are probably looking forward to playing the upcoming Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX which is coming to PC, and features all the best parts of the original game plus new animations, graphical detail and gameplay improvements. There's another version that might interest you, although more suited for those of you who like demakes and the Pico-8. Is Domarius's Alex Kidd in Pico World; a miniaturized version of the game featuring almost everything from the original recreated in the limitations of the Pico-8  64x64 Console!

This incredible demake of 'DOOM' as POOM on the Pico-8 is mind blowing!

We've certainly seen some impressive projects through the years on retro hardware, for example showing how well Sam's Journey and Super Mario performed on a C64 was impressive enough. But now it looks as if we are about to go one step further. As thanks to a heads up from a good friend of ours on Twitter, we have seen an incredible demake of Doom running on the Pico-8 by the name of 'POOM'

Masters of the Universe - A Barbarian Cartoon remake on the Pico-8 (Browser Playable)

Well this came as a complete surprise considering we wouldn't have found it without trawling through the Gamejolt Website, but we've just come across a new remake of Barbarian for the Pico-8; a new game which turns the classic game that many of still love to this day, into a remake of Masters of the Universe! Basically the head chopping game that was released in the late 80's is now playable with a classic cartoon theme with many of the enemies you must fight as He-Man himself!

Scramble - A cool retro shoot em up gets a fantastic WIP Pico-8 port

I was just thinking to myself could this day get any better for retro gaming, and going by the latest update on the Pico-8 website, it has! Welcome to 'Scramble'; a very nice side scrolling shoot em up Pico-8 port of a game which was originally released way back in 1981 as Scramble developed by Konami, and later versions as 'Skramble' by Darrell Etherington. This version developed by MinionSoft, stays true to the original but features a smooth frame rate, great retro graphics and top quality blasting action.

Ramps - A Stunt Car inspiration playable on your browser and Pico-8

Of all the games to appear on the Amiga, Stunt Car Racer was one of the best stunt style racers and one of Geoff Crammonds finest games,  it had some of the craziest tracks ever with one of them being the ultimate track the "Ski Jump". Yet what made it so good was not just the feeling of speed, but the thrill of accelerating into the sky and coming back down with an almighty crack, especially if you ended up missing the track altogether. So you can probably see why I'm just that little bit excited to see that a Stunt Car inspiration has not only appeared on the Pico-8 but can also be played in your browser.

FUZ - PICO-8 Puzzle Platformer demake of FEZ (Playable Online)

FEZ which is a Puzzle Platformer, was released way back in 2012-2013 on both Xbox 360 and Windows Steam as a game developed by Polytron Corporation in which featured a rather unusual rotating design as your character can explore a 3D world in certain 2D perspectives. This game which gathered favourable reviews has made an appearance this week in our inbox, but instead of being the original we remember, is instead a new Pico-8 Demake that has been developed and released by Henry Stadolnik.

Another World Survival - Pico-8 Demake of Another world with a twist.

Tube Runner - Pico-8 gets a tube racer with a wicked soundtrack!

Here's a treat for the Pico-8 crowd. Tube runner is, as you may have guessed, a tube racer in multi-coloured vector square tubes. Tube Runner gives not just a great impression of speed but also a cracking sountrack to boot.

Dank Tomb - Pico8's biggest adventure yet!

Pico-8's biggest adventure game yet is an absolute cracker! Beautiful lighting effects... Check! interesting puzzle element? Check! Sprawling map... Check! This game is so good I'm not even sure if it is legally allowed to be on Pico-8 ;)

Picoh Mummy! - A Pico-8 Demake of classic CPC Oh Mummy!

One of the fondest remembered games to anyone rocking a CPC464 back in the day was Oh Mummy! A game that was bundled for many of the computers sold (in the UK at least) and left impressions on many original owners through to this day. One such person was one of Road software, and together they have created a De-Make of the original onto the Pico-8 virtual console.

X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter: Attack on the Death Star - Pico-8 demake of a PC classic

Back in the day, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter was one of the best games in the PC space sim genre... and a Star wars game at that! Excellent graphics, brilliant dogfight mechanics and great mission design. It improved upon the previous X-Wing game but by allowing a choice of flying for the Rebel Alliance or the Empire. In the latest in our roundup of Pico-8 demakes, forum member freds72 has de-made XWvTF into one of the best sims on the platform

Spelunky demade on the Pico-8 as 'Delunky'

The original Spelunky released in 2008 is an action/puzzle platform game, where you play as the Spelunker who must explore tombs and other locations looking for treasure, (and love!) avoiding traps, blowing up scenery and enemies while escaping with as much loot as possible. It was and still is such a great game that Johan Peitz released his own version as a demake for the Pico-8 called ' Delunky '.

Piconian - Pico-8 Bosconian De-Make

Pico-8 has it's share of clones and De-Makes of very well known games, but the diminutive platform is also bringing out people to make homages to more esoteric and lesser known games from early arcade history. P8 user Aquova has brought us a fine mini-make of the 1981 shooter Bosconian.

Ready your paddles retro gamers, as a new Arcade Pico release is now available to download and play on your Pico-8 or via browser. Spaceman Splorf: Planet of Doom - Pico-8 port of Pondsoft's C64 casual game

One of the most common uses for the Pico-8 game creation tool is for people to re-make classic games from the 8-bit era using P8's differently limited set of constraints, or to DE-make more modern games from 16-bit and later platforms. But Spaceman Splorf: Planet of Doom is something slightly different... it's a port of a modern release on C64 so it actually represents a true port, made at around the same time as the original, and it's really well done!
