Red Goblin: Cursed Forest - Adventure platformer from the creators of CR-Fighter [Short Preview]

Wonderwall Studios, developers of CR-Fighter have given us the heads up of their latest game "Red Goblin: Cursed Forest", which is available for PC as the first chapter out of 3. Developed using Unity with their own artistic style, you play as Red a fire goblin that was summoned by Artuo as he faces many traps, enemies and spikes while jumping through a platform adventure and solving puzzles.

Discover what lies within the Dream Forest and why it's called "Cursed" now. Meet interesting characters in a psychological adventure, solve puzzles and learn all about the story of Artuo the knight that want to be a wizard, Red a fire goblin that was summoned by Artuo, Melchior the wizard of dreams and his familiars.

Wonderwall Studios were also kind enough to give us a review copy so I spent most of this afternoon having a play. The art style of the game including the characters are just lovely, with a pretty impressive classical soundtrack that would sound good on any device. However I'm not sure if it was an early build I was playing but I did run into a number of issues that would need to be addressed.

According to the controls if I use the UP key I could float, but this key had no affect. Another problem is the fact that I couldn't destroy boxes or move them out the way, thus I was stuck in the first area and gave up. Another issue I came across are the falling ceiling spikes, even though they had fallen into the ground and I had avoided them, if I touched the sides it was instant death, yet standing on top it was perfectly fine. Lastly, it would be nice to be able skip the cutscene write up at the start, as the stay time is a bit long and no amount of button mashing would skip it.

It's a shame I came across these bugs as the developers could have a great game on their hands, especially when the price is only $2.49. Thankfully the developers are constantly keeping the game up to date, so for that price I'd say it's a worthy buy if my issues are addressed.

UPDATE : I've just been informed that a new patch has been released which improves the game even even further and also added hints for the player in regards to talking to other characters if you get stuck, such as what happened to me. In regards to my issue pre-patch, the developer explained that I needed to talk Igor, then try to move the boxes, then go back to Igor and he will help me be able to smash boxes.

Patch Changelog below

  • Diamonds and lifes are easier to get.
  • Overall movement, animations, and interactions are more refined.
  • Removed a bug with a box in the ice level.
  • Overall game is easier.
  • Autosave is faster.
  • In the next patch we will include a way to skip the starting text.
With that fixed up and further patches to come, it certainly is well worth the price!
