Aviator Arcade II - Awesome C64 shoot em up preview from RGCD!

RGCD are back with another brilliant C64 release and unlike the previous classy shooter of Rocket Smash, this time it's a top quality preview for their upcoming shoot em up game 'Aviator Arcade II'. The first version of Aviator Arcade was released last year as a three level 16kb cart game for the RGCD annual c64 game development and after much praise and feedback, RGCD set out to release a feature packed Aviator Arcade II that is already a great game even at this preview stage.

The story begins with an unknown militarized terrorist unit, known as the X-Force, occupying the peaceful city of Suburbia. As the top pilot in the world's anti-terrorist squad the job of defeating the terrorists falls to you! Flying your state of the art attack helicopter you are sent into what seems to be a straight forward seek-and-destroy mission - but as the story unfolds it will become apparent that the X-Force's goal is more sinister than anyone could have imagined... Grab your joystick, save the world, and see if you can get that all-time high score!

From my short play through of the game it is most impressive indeed, with varied enemies, fast paced 50/60fps shoot em up action and three out of ten levels available just in this preview release. What's more it is fully playable with damage, weapon and armour power ups, neat sound effects and much more that is most impressive for an early teaser of what is to come in the final release.

Listed Preview Features :
  • All new background and sprite graphics!
  • Bosses at the end of each level!
  • Weapon and armour power-ups!
  • Three difficulty levels, auto-fire and more options!
  • Upgraded sound and bomb effects!
  • High score list and options saved to disk!
  • PAL/NTSC and GS compatibility!

The developers have also stated that they hope that AVIATOR ARCADE II will be one of the best vertical shoot-em-up games available for the Commodore 64, offering players a console quality arcade experience on the humble 8-Bit home computer. So a tall order indeed but when it comes to the games RGCD create, this could actually be one of the best.

Available in .D64 format and can be run through the emulator Vice or devices such as the 1541-Ultimate II
