Athanor 2 - The Legend Of The Birdmen - A brilliant Amiga game is getting an AGA edition!

Sometime back we informed you that the Amiga game Athanor 2 - The Legend of the Birdmen was not only a fabulous looking Adventure game that was programmed in C and is the sequel to the 8bit 2015-2016 game of 'Athanor', but we also announced the game was released as a gorgeous boxed edition much to the delight of the Amiga community. Well if you missed out on the game and still want to get your hands on it, it might be worth keeping an eye out for the latest AGA edition, which is coming soon to the Amiga 1200 and above!

Athanor 2 not only features a typical 80's style North, South, East command interface of adventure games of old, but unlike the first game which we also enjoyed, it features full mouse control, enriched dialogues, different phases of gameplay, throughout multiple locations through 4 worlds, full 256 colours, extra sounds and much much more all for your Amiga 1200 and above. So yes certainly a game that if you get the chance to buy it, you'll be pleased to have it in your collection!

Some physical versions are available, don't hesitate to contact the developer via the email below for further information such as prices or to reserve your own copy.

    1. I purchased the boxed edition last year and asked the dev for the images to play the game on emulator (as I don't own the hardware). He was a bit reluctant and asked me to not share the images around but he gave them to me. He also said that the game would be free in the future (I think he said as soon as the boxes are sold out). I agree, it's a shame if such a beautiful game could be enjoyed by a few people only.

  3. For me there is not too much difference between OCS/ECS and AGA version. It looks like they just reuse old materials with some more shades of gray and brown. I hope It would be better done in final version, because for now all is blurry and colours are washed out.

    1. I find the text hard to read, it was a mistake to not upgrade the screen to hires mode in AGA

  4. "It looks like they just reuse old materials with some more shades of gray and brown." -> I'm sorry that it "looks like" but we actually reworked all the artworks:
    - 5 sprite sheets
    - the whole inventory, the GUI
    - a dozen of NPC portraits
    This was discussed here: https://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=1561452&postcount=55
    and here : https://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=1561474&postcount=61
In addition, we added around 3 minutes of soundscape (made out of 150Kb of samples) to the existing musics.
The code was modified as well to run on AGA machines, with approx. 2500 lines of C added to the project.

I hope this will help Amiga folks to get an idea of the amount of work we dedicated to the project.

    1. If you rework all the artwork why not put it in hires mode so there is a decent readable font

    2. It would practically double the amount of floppy disk to store the game (if you double the pixels it will double the size of a file), not to mention the large amount of rework to adapt the code to the new resolution & pixel aspect ratio.
