PSSST - A classic Ultimate Play the Game as a 40 year tribute for the Commodore 64

In 1983 Ultimate Play the Game released a rather unusual game called "Pssst" for the ZX Spectrum; a game in which you played as Robbie the Robot on a personal struggle to stop deadly garden pests from swarming and eating at his lovely garden plant. If you remember this fun game you'll be pleased to know that as of just recently, a new version of the game was unofficially released for the C64 as a 40year tribute by Boony, with music by STEPZ originally for Pick and Mix.

You play as Robbie the Robot who has come back to his garden to grow his favourite flower the “Thyrgodian Megga Chrisanthodil”. But annoyingly the garden is invaded by evil and opportunist insects that require you to put a stop to them with a good dose of the right bug spray. Be aware that if you use the wrong bug spray for the wrong insect, it may paralyze them or not work at all.  So do make sure to get it right as if you fail, your flower will get eaten!

  3. Hey folks! - so rather than linking the 'crack' of the game which was given free, and also sent unprotected to CSDb who then refused to list it, but instead sent it to GP for them to pretend to crack and train - can you instead link to the original unprotected D64 which was given free physically at ZZAP! LIVE as a phisical limited run, complete with stickers and coaster at via the link - https://t.co/SgXldXdCGb - this is the original unprotected D64 distributed freely by the author (Boony) and producer (PAV) . Ironically the game has a built in TRAINER - as PAV explains "Yeah the built in trainer is when you type TCS in the top left hand corner and then type RUN.. Like in the olden days Teeside Cracking Service! hahaha"

    1. Yes. I don't see how "cracks" are relevant any longer on the C64 platform. There are no copy protection anyway and the tampering can cause all kinds of unexpected issues to the game itself. This is why a "crack" of a recent homebrew game should be seen as an inferior version.

    2. IndieRetroNews: I think both versions should be linked, just like on practically all other news entries. It's fun that there are new games out coming out, and also that the scene is still alive. I like the GP trainer better for example. https://csdb.dk/release/?id=234445

    3. That's not true. Most new "crack releases" are actually superior versions, especially when the releasing groups fix bugs and issues in the original game (including ntsc-fixing etc), and add documentation and more perks. Sure - no copy protection are removed on new games, but check out the bugfixed versions out there by Triad, GP, Laxity etc. Clearly better versions. Even game coders often implement the "crackers" bugfixes in new versions. Of course one should skip the bugged releases out there - they are flagged "broken" on csdb. Go for the ones that are flagged 101% etc.

  4. Nice, well that only leave 4 Ultimate Games still to be ported to the C64... TranzAm, Cyberun, Lunar Jetman & Martianoid

    1. I didn't realize that Jetpac had already been done? I'll have to check that out. TranzAm could be a good one for the C64. Definitely want to see Lunar Jetman, and the others would be cool too.

  6. I cannot download the trained version. Chrome rejects to download, it says it's too dangerous.

    1. Don't bother downloading the "trained version" the original release, without the stupid scener crack-tro plastered all over it, has a built in trainer. After loading the game, type TCS in the top left hand corner of the screen and then on a new line type RUN. It is a little nod to the old skool Teeside Cracking Service, & how it was done back in the day.

    2. Download the GP version if you want. The trainer makes more sense than the inbuilt one. Just enjoy the C64 life, dude. :) https://csdb.dk/release/?id=234445
