DaemonClaw coming to MegaDrive, Neo Geo, and modern systems! First ever footage of DaemonClaw running on a real Megadrive!

BitBeamCannon recently teamed up with Neofid and PixelHeart to bring their retro arcade style game, DaemonClaw to Megadrive, Neo Geo, and modern systems! NeoFid had great success with their two previous games, Demons of Asteborg and Astebros which were recent successful Kickstarter campaigns and here is first ever footage of DaemonClaw running on an actual Megadrive console.

BitBeamCannon gave us a 2 day head's up before making this video live on their channel so please consider liking and subscribing to them for all the latest updates and behind the scenes developments. PixelHeart have a long record of producing and publishing indie and retro games and are already making good progress with getting DaemonClaw up and running on the Neo Geo and they hint that they will be showing new footage of it running on the console in the near future.

One unique aspect of these three distinct versions of DaemonClaw (Megadrive, Neo Geo, and modern systems) is that each one will feature an exclusive second selectable character to play as and no matter which version anyone gets they'll be able to play all three versions via an included Steam key! DaemonClaw's Kickstarter has been live since September 12th and its currently working towards the third stretch goal!

You can check out the kickstarter here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/neofid-studios/daemonclaw

For Amigan's, don't worry, the plans for DaemonClaw on Amiga have not changed. It will be made using the same code base as Metro Siege once it's finished, but with AGA features added to the engine to make sure the Amiga version of DaemonClaw looks and plays very competitively against any other version. Because it's unknown how long it will take to finish Metro Siege, the Amiga version of DaemonClaw can't be offered through this Kickstarter.

    1. It's absolutely something we and Pixelheart plan to pursue, but we can't promise it in this Kickstarter.

    2. @bitbeamCannon can you show anything from the amiga version ? Why the need for AGA, just check Jim power easily perfrorm better that this genesis demo

    3. It's not a matter of need, it's a matter of wanting the Amiga version to fit in extremely competitively with the Megadrive and Neo Geo versions. While Jim Powers moved very smoothly and had a lot of colors on screen in total, the use of dual playfield for some of the layers meant a huge amount of the on screen colors was purely in background gradients, and there were very few colors to go around for foreground character 'sprites' etc. Also, we can't show the Amiga version because we won't finalize what it looks like until we begin augmenting the Metro Siege code base (Engine 9000) and getting DaemonClaw running on it.

    4. @bitbeamcannon what you describe for Jim power is almost accurate. I would prefer the A500 version to have less foreground colors and more background colors , like the games that take advantage of the A500 and of course with parallax and use of copper for more gradient colors as described.

Especially for Jim power which also use overscan and of course the sound it is not even comparable with the megadrive. Even the unreleased genesis version is actually Amiga mods transform so we can have more decent sound.

Since we all know how the amiga works , especially for spites it would be better to target 2MB memory A500 version since you are going to loose a lot of memory for sprites, we all know that Amiga is no console.

So again i do not see any real reason for AGA to be extremely competitive. We have forgot in the Amiga community how powerful OCS/ECS really is.

Anyway congratulations for your effort but an AGA version running at 25fps not full screen is simply not acceptable even for ECS.

@bitbeamcannon One more thing to comment following the previous post , you mention engine 9000 , we can accept metro sieze at 25fps , since you target a 1MB ocs (although it’s unfortunate that Amigas full power actually needs due to chipset design fast ram to perform correctly - stupid design choice) so you confirm an aga release at 25 fps ??? No full screen ???

    6. @bitbeamcannon waiting for your response !!

    7. Metro Siege is 25 FPS because of 2 reasons: 1- all the simultaneous large characters made from many parts on screen and 2- the fact it runs on OCS with a total of 1 meg

DaemonClaw will be 50/60 FPS because it will take advantage of AGA's greater power for visuals and performance and because there is less need for so many characters made from so many parts, and for so much AI logic and collisions on screen at the same time.

A very nice a500 version could be done, but we want the Amiga version to be clearly better in several ways and not at all clearly weaker in any ways.

    8. @bitbeamcannon your response is appreciated , we will wait for the AGA a1200 version at the first demo to be more advanced than the others.

      Hopefully it would be soon.

  3. Saddened that it will Require AGA just to look as good as the Genesis ( if its AGA it should look and Play better and smoother actually) and Also its getting realeased later (I hope this means it will be BETTER).

    1. We never said it would simply look as good as the Genesis. For each system we are taking the time and effort to make it put best use to that systems strengths and compensate for the weaknesses. Obviously there are clear advantages for AGA in regards to color fidelity, processor horsepower, and sound fidelity. There are some other cool tricks we plan to use to really mage the Amiga version of DaemonClaw unique and distinct, but we shouldn't reveal that until we can actually show it.

    2. Awesome! exactly what I wanted to hear. Also please STOP listening to Amiga users stuck in the 80's thinking Amiga games should support 512k RAM or 1mb So many companies make RAM for all Amigas and easy to upgrade. Games should require 4mb and above these days for both ECS and AGA. and in some cases 4mb RAM and 030 processor even for Platform Games. I hope to see The Adventures Of Batman and Robin on an ECS Amiga with 2mb RAM maybe 1mb fast one day from the Genesis.

    2. There's a saying in the video game industry which is unfortunately very close to being true. "the last 10 percent is 90 percent of the work".

We're very happy that we've got the core engine, tool set, playable character set, and core design and coding for all of Metro Siege's levels nearly done, but the path from here to finishing still represents a huge amount of work. The big issue is Metro Siege is being bade by a team of members from around the globe, who each have many fluctuating responsibilities like day jobs and family responsibilities which can drastically change how much progress the team can make in any given time frame.
While working on DaemonClaw Corey and I try to maintain from weeks to a month of ready to implement design and art to be programmed into Metro Siege once the programmer has the time to work on it.
The long story short is we will continue to make progress on Metro Siege as much as we can, and the the bigger the success of DaemonClaw, the more likely we can finish Metro Siege (and all the other games we have planned) sooner and better than would otherwise be possible.

    3. If AGA is chosen for the Amiga version....then i expect there will be a CD32 version? I sold my A1200 two years ago.

    4. Yes, CD32 is absolutely a system we'll be targetting.

    2. @bitbeamcannon why don’t you release a demo of metro sieze for all amiga fans. It’s been 2 years and in those 2 years you switched to other systems unfortunately!!

      Delete
    3. @bitbeamCannon why after 2 years of Metro sieze there is no Amiga demo? you started as amigans to support the amiga community and you switched to console focus. Can we have a response and demo of real amiga games ?

    4. I can't really blame you for feeling this way because there's to reasonable way for you to know all of the relevant information of what we've been doing, the situations of the other critical team members, or what's in our hearts.

We have been and will continue to donate huge amounts of our time not only to developing Metro Siege, but also in other future Amiga games, and we'll continue to invest much time, energy, and money supporting others to further the Amiga cause. Please ask Erik Hogan, creator of Scorpion Engine what he thinks our motivations are.

The simple fact is Metro Siege is being worked on whenever possible by team members all over the world who have ever changing responsibilities in the form of day jobs and family situations.

Corey and I do our best to make sure there is something like a months worth of programming work in design and art ready for the programmer to dive into when he has time. This is the current situation, and this is why we work on other projects on top of, (not to replace) Metro Siege.

The success of DaemonClaw can lead to an earlier success in Metro Siege, and would enable us to make more of our games faster and of a better quality.

    5. @bitbeamCannon what you actually say here is that for a game that started earlier for amiga you must wait for the change in focus to take place, console it is then. Thats ok for you it is just so unfair for amiga fans who believed in the project. I personally would be very happy to see a modern amiga beat em up but the focus must be amiga something that has changed from your side. Waiting for a demo still for A500.

Regarding scorpion engine , although i like it we must be realistic here. Scorpion engine cannot achieve the true power of amiga. It is not ASM. Yes we like scorpion but in order to have a "full screen" game at 50fps i dont see that happening the way amiga works with scorpion engine. And dont forget the Amiga is like the PS3 of each time , you must know what you are doing regarding resources. So scorpion is ok but its not Agony or shadow of the beast which they cannot simply be replicated either from Genesis or SNES. Allghouth the windows is still small the quality is simply unmathced alltough use of modern color technics would be more efficient even with 6 colors foreground.

So we have a change of focus then...

      @bitbeamCannon

Further more even at your last platform game (don’t recall the name) you started for Amiga and the development of sega mega drive was pushed at 200% speed , we still haven’t seen the Amiga latest version.

When we will have update on that , is console your main focus for that game too ?

  10. It looks like Altered Beast without the "beast". Is there a chance to have one day an Altered Beast remake on the Amiga (new graphic, more challenges, better engine) ? I would pay for it.

    1. Your assessment is right, DaemonClaw is not a platformer and not a MetroidVania. It's a fast action arcade style game. We plan to make a video specifically showing and explaining more about the gameplay soon.
