Throughout 2024 I've been keeping you up to date about Golden Code's awesome looking Danmaku shooter of 'MEGA MILV'. A game that doesn't just feature decent graphics, but more bullets and lasers than you can handle all running on a stock A1200 or above. As in the words of the creator "Real bullet hell on a stock Amiga 1200! 304 x 256 PAL 50 Hz, 2p simultan mode, hundreds of bullets!" Well if you're interested in any developments of this upcoming Amiga game, then provided below is latest footage from a real Amiga which was also shown at the recent Amiga 40 event.
When the game is officially released, I'll make sure to do a more in-depth write up. But for now here's everything the developer has said in relation to the video posted above. "I'm really happy that it runs rock-stable on stock machines, not a single crash during the whole event. I only had to reboot to show some more skeptical visitors that the machines were indeed unexpanded. I'd say it also plays fine and I guess we've reached "feature stop", so it's now all about coming up with 4 more levels and maybe some optimizations here and there (not really necessary as it practically always runs at 50 fps even in 2p mode, but anyway, always good to have reserves for more bullets 😉 ).

So much going on on that screen, hard to find your way through it all. Massive !! Looking good :)
ReplyDeleteWow, that sounds really amazing!
ReplyDeleteLet's hope it actually comes out!
Great game from a great coder!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing.... and looks like a game I would last 10 seconds in
ReplyDeleteWhoa! What an overkill of sheer goodness! And that on an original Amiga 1200. Super impressive.
ReplyDelete[And umm - sure, no - no one did see the cheat thingy ;)]
This is really interesting! Hope they improve backgrounds which are a bit dull
ReplyDeleteI agree, backgrounds deserve more care, more colours and detail. And, if possible, get rid of those horrible copper bars
DeleteThis looks awesome and too difficult for me. Some other shoot'em up's in development, should take notes.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of bullet hell games, but this looks awesome! Also, the backgrounds are nice and detailed. They could use a few more colors, though.
ReplyDeleteI love Bullet Hell shooters and I can't believe something like this is possible on the Amiga. This is a far cry from Deluxe Galaga (a game I loved back in the day). Imagine if you released this in the early 90's
ReplyDeleteMILF ... cough, cough ... I mean MILV looks absolutely stunning.
ReplyDeleteDeluxe Galaga still is a great game. I'm not a fan of Bullet Hell shooters, for me they belong on a console.
ReplyDeleteAwesome use of the stock A1200 hardware ! Japanese quality ! Congrats !
ReplyDeleteNot keen on the name change. It's far too similar to MILF.
ReplyDeletelooks mental on amiga
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the end of level boss is taken from Skyforce Reloaded, that spider. Anyways, this could become the best shooter ever done for AGA Amigas, with more polished background and enemy graphics. Looks like some SWIV techniques are taken into use, with copper changes of colors vertically. Maybe look also into effects used in Banshee AGA and Proxima Reshoot, like rain, cloud, and fog effect, with bitmap layers. Or use color cycling for water/lava effects. I also think that bosses should have real guns where bullets appear from, and fires and explosions when they get more damaged.
ReplyDeleteif you type "spider mecha" on Pinterest you'll find hundreds of artwork regarding this specific subject, don't think this it's specifically taken from skyforce, it's almost likey saying that Gradius is a copy of space invaders...
ReplyDeleteLooked up "spider mecha", but didnt find spiders with that characteristic bowl shape, I've only seen it in Skyforce Reloaded, but it's possible there are similar shapes somewhere else. A mechanized spider isn't of course anything new, they had those already in Doom 2, made in 1994, the arachnotron.
DeleteUnfortunately, this is an overused genre. Furthermore, it looks too much like masterpieces for PC Engine CD-ROMs and various arcade cabinets...
ReplyDeleteTrauma 0 is still far ahead!!!
T-Zer0 doesn't display even a fraction of what's going on here and it doesn't work on stock Amiga 1200 as it requires Fast RAM and 030 for decent performance.
DeleteMega-impressive technically, but could definitely use a better art direction. Was that title screen AI-generated?
