Beach Head - A classic WW2 game by Access Software(1983) is coming to the Colecovision

Well, this is great news if you have a ColecoVision, as I've been informed through Facebook that the classic World War 2 game called 'Beach Head' by Access Software from 1983 is coming to the ColecoVision by Shaoth. According to the developer, not only is all the gameplay there for testing, but while a thread has been created for player feedback, there may be improvements to come, such as sounds and graphics, as the ColecoVision is capable of doing so much more.

Here's what the wikipedia page says about the game which was the companies best selling Commodore title as of late 1987. "The game's setting is the Pacific Ocean theater of World War II. Gameplay consists of several varying stages in which the player must control various vehicles including warships and tanks in order to defeat an enemy fleet, break through enemy beach defences and destroy an enormous gun-emplacement to win the game. The gun emplacement requires multiple hits to be destroyed, but traverses faster than tanks can aim and fire, so it cannot be destroyed in a single attempt. In order to complete the game multiple tanks must make it through to the final level".

  2. No, no, this is a port for the wrong platform. Amiga needs a port of this game, it would be relatively easy to do too, as the game is technically quite simple, even for a C64 game. But Beach Head is still a good game, that could be also extended to be more challenging on 16/32 bit platforms.

    2. Its just that so few have a Colecovision, I didn't even know that it existed until now. There seems to be some problem with Amiga conversions of similar games, took a very long time to get Raid over Moscow ported, and still no signs of C64 classics Blue Max and Raid on Bungeling Bay.

    3. I was a young teen when the ColecoVision hit the market and man, if you had one of those, you were the coolest person in the neighborhood in a sea of Atari 2600s. I think it's pretty epic it works so well on the console tbh. Shaoth is obviously a very talented coder.

  3. The naval battle level is definitely there. I may have a problem with the transition between levels 2 and 3. I'll check it out as soon as I'm on my computer.

  4. Fun fact: This game was banned by German youth protection authorities for 25 years for glorifying war. 🙂

    1. Ironically it should have been the Japanese who banned it since the game is pretty much about them...
